About
Elephant Joy in Jaipur, India is a fantastic way for you to get hands-on experience and make a real difference to the lives of our elephants. Stay in the most exciting, innovative working elephant village in India, dedicated to conserving elephants. You can learn about their basic habits of food, life and traditional decoration. People from Elephant Joy are engaged with elephants by birth, not by profession. Our family have been riding and taking care of elephants since 6 generations but nowadays we have very different world where everyone has busy life. So we have created these activities for people who want to be a Mahout (Rider) of a beautiful and gentle animal. You will be enjoying with the biggest but gentlest animal in the world. By learning to take care of them, feeding, watering and bathing you will have a chance to create your own bond with them. Their individuality will teach you about how important it is to contribute to their survival. For those of you who want to explore beyond hotels & restaurants to room and board, we have put together a home stay program where you can explore Indian culture by living in a typical Indian home for a couple of nights.

We were picked up by a guy who couldn't speak much English, but was very polite, and we felt a bit confused when the car just stopped in a housing area (no sign) - we only knew we were there because we saw elephants and other visitors. However some guys came over and were very friendly and able to answer lots of questions about the elephants. We were offered a cold drink and soon met 'our' elephant, who we then fed, decorated and washed...magical. We also rode 2 elephants. My husband dropped his sunglasses and the elephant picked them up with her trunk and gave them back! Great fun and it was a good experience (the elephant drivers will probably ask for a tip at this point) Felt the elephants were valued and cared for. We could have stayed longer than 2+ hours but due to a misunderstanding we hadn't had lunch. We certainly weren't hurried away, tho best to bring food if you want to hang around for longer. The driver was very helpful in dropping us off. Thank you and good luck!

A day spent with the lovely people at Elephant Joy was without a doubt the highlight of our trip to India. These gentle giants were happy and well looked after. We rode bareback, fed with bananas and washed the elephants with a hose. Truly a magical experience that with stay with us.

Even though we enjoyed the elephant ride up the to the fort, later on felt sad for these poor animals, They are heavily worked , but looks poorly fed.

Fantastic experience. Elephants are really well treated and so friendly! (Particularly if you have any bananas hidden in your bag). Unforgettable - just wish I could have brought one of them home with me!

A wonderful afternoon with 2 females elephant !
The staff at "Elephant Joy" is really friendly and helpful. We first exchanged a couple of emails for booking, all with quick answer.
D-day we've been picked up at our hotel as organised. Once arrived, the elephants were waiting for us and we've been welcomed with a cup of tea. Staff gave us many informations about their animals.
Then we had the chance to pet, feed and paint them, go for a ride and finaly wash them.
Don't be scared to get wet if you want to fully experience the washing session, it's so funny!
If you're going to Asia, you definitly want to spend time with elephants in a good environment, plus "elephant joy" has very reasonable prices compared to what we've seen in Thaïland and eslewhere in India.
Again, thank you for this great moment and the pictures you took for us.

The thing that makes Elephant Joy stand out from other elephant riding/painting/tours is that you ride the elephants bareback (AKA sitting on their back on a pad instead of a giant chair), which is a lot more fun in my opinion. My group walked through the desert area on the elephant property, which we enjoyed. One of our group members went on an elephant tour of Amber Fort as well but didn't like it as much as Elephant Joy because it was crowded and took forever to get to the fort. Additionally all of the workers were very kind to us and still excited about the elephants despite years of working there. The only bad things I have to say about Elephant Joy are that there was trash littered throughout the trail we rode on and the wildlife of the area isn't the most attractive, but I definitely recommend Elephant Joy over every other elephant tour in Jaipur.

Went with 2 friends, thought our visit to elephant joy was a one in a lifetime experience!
What was best thing is that the animals seemed really well cared for there. I didn't feel that my visit (We rode an elephant around the farm-like area, although I was hesitant because of the negative pieces I had read online about elephant rides in India, and fed her bananas) had any negative impact on the elephant. We rode bareback on the elephant, so no painful saddle or anything like that. The elephants seemed happy, healthy, and well-fed. In fact all they did while we were there was eat. They also seemed to like and trust their caretakers!
The difference was huge between these elephants as compared to how the elephants at the Amer fort looked like. These are obviously much better taken care of.
Located not far from the Amer fort. The place is a bit hard to find if you're going on your own via autorickshaw but you can call and get help. However, only one of the caretakers really spoke English so communication was at times hard (luckily I had two people who could speak Hindi with me). They served us chai and water and helped us negotiate a good price for what we wanted to do.
Overall you should definitely come here while in Jaipur! Avoid the elephants at the Amer Fort (poor animals!) and do this instead.

We had such an amazing time at Elephant Joy! The elephants were so happy and healthy, playful and sweet. We were able to paint them and feed them bananas and bathe them. The owners were so knowledgeable about elephants and treated them so well. The elephant ride was a lot of fun, the area was beautiful! I would do this excursion again and again! My friends and I still talk about the time we had there. I would 100% recommend, you will never forget the experience! Thank you Elephant Joy for helping us make a memory we will remember forever!

I will be coming to India with a tour group, but will have a free afternoon. Are you easily reachable from Jaipur by cab? How much time will I need to do an elephant safari in the national park?
