Great place, visited in early May. We had booked online tickets for both phase 1 and phase 2. Had reached Gondola at around 9 am . We stood there for around 3 hours in queue to get into the car to Phase 1. Everywhere the guides help people to jump into queues out of turn and there were huge outcry from the crowd.
However the view in Phase 2 is breath taking, it wass worth the wait. Could be better if they can have a proper queue system as there were senior citizens who were waiting in queues for 2 or 3 hours. Request the management to do something

Traveled on 10th May.
The place & the experience it has to offer is amazing. The queues are usually long due to poor management from people running Gondola.
A single person will be standing in the queue in front of you who apparently is the guide of 10-15 people. As you reach closer to your turn, he will pull 10-15 people in the queue & claim that he was standing on their behalf. Unless you dont raise your voice, this things continue. Question everyone who comes and joins the queue in between.
There are many cars for Phase. The wait time is less even in rush time. However for phase two there are half the cars as compared to phase one. Also there are frequent faults at phase two so the delay is more. Its a steep climb so it takes more time.
At phase two dont try to run or do exhaustive activities which will make you feel week, as the oxygen level is less there. Carry some camphor which you can use for smelling if you feel oxygen deprived.
People with hypertension, asthma or any breathing issues refrain from traveling to phase two.
In terms of beauty, its a must visit place if you get an opportunity.
To reach the ticketing center from parking you can take a 10-15 mins walk. Its around 800mts. The ponies will however try to convince you that gondola is closed on phase one & take a horse ride up till there. Don't believe them blindly. Also they will tell you there is huge queue and opt for a horse ride to reach there early. Even if you opt one don't pay more than 200 for the ride.

Good place to visit. Go on if you have online tickets and weather is good. We booked online tickets for phase 1 and phase 2. Because of bad weather phase 2 was closed. But phase 1 is also beautiful. We went in mid April 2022. Got lot of snow , and also snowfall. Kids will love it. You can also do snow activities here.
Local people have ruined the place. They are very ill mannered and rude. As soon as you reach gulmarg, your taxi will be stopped at parking and pony ride people will surround you to loot you. For us they asked 2k per person to drop and pickup at golconda station.
Finally they agreed in 500. But keep in mind that road is not good whre horse go, it's dangerous for kids and elders. Better to walk for 2 kms max and thats it.
When you reach golconda station you will see a long queue and loot starts from there. Guide will approach you for jumping the queue and ask you 2000. Every where in the queue you will se people jumping between. Pathetic management, infact no management. It's run by local goons. So please be prepared when you go there. Only good thing is ticket is booked online so local goons cannot overcharge.
Kashmir is really heaven but kashmiris aren't. People are not good, they just try to loot and are very rude and dishonest.

Gulmarg cable car made us wait in the queue for 3.5 hrs just to go to first stage. A guide hooked up with us for Rs.600/- at Gulmarg promising that he will get us tickets for stage-2 and that we will not have to wait in the queue; which we discovered later to be a farce. Tickets are allowed only online and should be taken days ahead; and Guides have no role or influence there. Your tickets can get cancelled any time based on weather. Gulmarg is not worth visiting if you cannot go to stage-2 and the waiting time is a real pain. Think twice before choosing to visit Gulmarg.

We hired this guy one Umar through a reference it was a good experience with him, he guided us well and alos arranged for gondola tickets for us, we say many getting cheated by agents but this guy was genuine and took care of our family well, we also hired a water fall tour through him which was OK in gulmarg, you have to be smart in knowing what the actual price is for everything then it becomes easy. Umar guided us well in pricing but yet we bargained a little he can be contacted on +917006236271

Gondola ride upto phase 2 was amazing. Kindly book your tickets online 2-3 weeks before your scheduled ride else you would miss out upto phase 2. Your tour operator may keep your hopes alive till the last moment to be doomed in the end. Not worth it, if you do not make upto phase 2 in April. You can walk upto gondola counter from your drop off your car. You will not need a guide or a horse ride. People will keep bugging you for the same . Unnecessarily you'll have to pay. Up the 14500 feet at phase 2, hire a professional photographer to click your photos. He charges rs.100/- per copy (both hard n soft- but it's worth it). Sledging, skating activities can be done at phase 2. Avoid going on horse ride for site seeing at the ground level or even at phase 1 for skating or sledging. However, sad to note that no security checks or screening or scanning people or their baggage. Ensure you reach early morning by 8:30 else it would be a mad rush later.

Highly mismanaged place and want to loot tourists.
We booked 7 Gondola ride tickets for Phase 1 and Phase 2 (Kungdoor- Apharwat) for Apr 22, 2022.
Due to weather, Phase 2 rides were cancelled.
On enquiry at the ticket counter, we were informed that since the Phase 2 rides are cancelled for the entire day, refunds will be processed on sending the email to your team.
Amount paid was Rs 6,650 (950*7).
None of their phone numbers are operational. They never reply to the emails.

Unfortunately, we were not able to secure a ticket to Phase 2, as such, we had to do good with Phase 1. Given that we visited during the last week of April, most of the snow on Phase 1 had melted and there were a few pockets where there was some snow. One needs to be wary of the Pony waalaas, as they keep persuading you to take a pony ride promising you that they will take them to a place where there is a lot of ice/snow. We enquired with a few people who were returning from the other side and they said, there was hardly any snow. Also, once you enter Gondola, the taxis, take you to hire coats and shoes. Even here, the vendors say it is way too cold above, you will freeze, you will need gum shoes/coats, but on reaching phase 1, we found that there was hardly any snow and the temp was ~20 degrees. Also, do not hire a guide as he does nothing valuable and it is just a waste of money.
The pony waalas (horse folks) say it is 2 km to the cable car station, but the distance from the entrance of Gondola to the Cable car station is less than 1 km. Again, another tactic to rip off the tourists. All the taxi drivers, tour operators are all hand-in-glove with the vendors (horse/coats/restaurants) etc.

iting in lines for first phase to second phase was literally the worst decision ever. Since bookings have gotten online. Most of the guides who are trying to get extra bucks are taking group of customers and trying to slip them in the front. In the most sneaky way possible and trust me on this it truly got us to shock. And people who have been waiting in the line for almost two hours are just being taken for granted and mind you we too were a big group with kids starting from age 3. We had to yell our way through to see to in no-one tried to cut in between the line from the front. I know the view is breathtaking and reaching that point let’s go of all that happened there. To our plight we had to go through the same all over again. We had Indians and guides telling us that all this happens in India. Now we being Indians are trying to better our country by showing some sort of chivalry and to take others for a ride, is what the remaining educated people think. Very very sad state. Don’t go by the reviews of how beautiful it is. Paying an exorbitant rate just to see this is understandable but scarring ourselves with the situation isn’t. I would rather do an international trip to see the snow clads. Disappointed with the whole system. Shame on us being called Indians.

Gulmarg gondola online booking & direct entry to boarding counter.
If we book the ticket online can we direct go to the boarding point or tickets still need to be collected form counter.
There are quite a few conflicting comments about this.
People saying we still need to collect boarding pass from ticket counter after online Booking.
But a friend who went there last month booked online & directly went to boarding point. Showed the online booking at entry & went to phase 1.

1. These people keep on changing rules.
2. Online booking is sometimes closed. No payment in any mode except cash often.
3. There is a counter on airport arrival also, but its for fixed date. If you are unable to go on that date, the tickets are non refundable, whatever, the guys there tell.
4. Guys there are rogues, their only concern is money inside your purse. Nothing else matters. No fixed rules, nothing.

hi
im travelling on 20th april will there be snow in gulmarg and what would be the temp and which is the good hotel to stay in
will we be able to do skiing?

The best hotel to stay is the Khyber Himalyan resort. It is walking distance to the gondola ride and has a nice heated pool and spa. The only thing I didn't like was the hotel food was very very expensive. Snow might be there at phase 2. Gondola ride takes you to phase 1 and the ski lift takes you to phase 2.

Not sure. There might be snow at phase 2, the gondola will take you to phase 1 and the ski lift takes you to phase 2. There might be snow at phase 2 in May but doubt there will be snow at phase 1.
