We went here on a cold winter day in Taiyuan to escape the city smog and see some local history. The Mengshan mountain carving is amazing and the park is run exceptionally well. I am very glad we were here in winter though as it was very visible to see the grounds were ready to cater for 1000's of people!... More

This is well worth going to if you are in Taiyuan, in a nice foresty area with little streams to walk alongside. You can see the Buddha from quite a way away, and it is a good feeling to finally get up to it, having been getting nearer and nearer to it for a long time. There are quite a... More

I visited the buddha a couple of years ago, not in 2015, which is offered by system. There were a large number of visitors then. The green mountain, clean stream, natural scenes made me wanna go there again.

I would highly recommend visiting this site. We visited on a chilly day in November. The air quality in Taiyuan is terrible but here it was ok. It was a peaceful place. We were very time limited as we had a train to catch and 3 young children so we didn't walk around. We caught the buggy up, which cost... More

There are many amazing holy sites in China- all flourishing without the need for prompting from Formal religion- mercifully absent from the lives of the people. Menshang Mountain Budda in Taiyuan tops the list for it's unique location- just sit gaze, and wonder- "How did it get here". Take the tourist car- or walk through the winding forest paths with... This Buddha is over 1400 years old and it is located in a great forest with a nice walk through the trees and beside streams . It is a fantastic monument and if you are on Taiyuan well worth the visit .

You can enjoy the nature for someone like hiking. It takes about an hour walk to the moutain. It is also availabe to take a shuttle bus to the middle point and takes 0.5 hour to walk to the moutain. It is not convenient to take a bus to go there because it takes a long long walk from the... More

Of all the sights I saw in China, this one was the most moving and fascinating. If you are near, make the time to trek to the Mengshan Buddha. You won't be disappointed.

This is not just a Buddha it is a massive one as well as the whole village surrounding it, There is lots of lovely bushland and an area they call oxygen bar and it is so good on trees producing oxygen. It is really worth the walk but if you don't want to walk up you can get a buggy... More
