We had the privilege of having Tom as our guide for our 13 day Safari with our 3 teenage kids and 1 nine year old. Tom was the highlight for our trip, his knowledge and understanding of the animals was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed listening and learning so much from him-very grateful! We did camping (sleeping bags, pillows and mattresses were so comfy) and tented camp (a real treat to have your own toilet, bed and shower) I recommend to do both. Shelley put our itinerary together with many emails going back and forth with her wonderful ideas and suggestions that best suit our family and budget. The truck was really comfortable and fun with a pop up roof-loved this, fridge with cold water and iPhone charging points. Loved our cook Omi especially for keeping us well fed and healthy. Really loved and fully recommend African Scenic Safari, local small company who are there to make your adventure amazing!!!

Dear Client,
We are so happy to read your review of your safari with African Scenic and thrilled you enjoyed your family safari with our guide Tom and cook Omi
Tom is an amazing guide with a wealth of knowledge and a knack for spotting and finding the wildlife and am so glad you were able to learn so much from him. And Omi always makes delicious food.
It was wonderful you enjoyed the camping experience as well as the tented camps which was a good combination. The vehicles are an added bonus as you say with the fridge and charging points and they are also V8 so quite powerful vehicles.
We would like to thank you for your recommendation and it is lovely you had such a super safari
Hope to see you again in Tanzania
Kind regards

I would highly recommend booking your Kilimanjaro climb or safari through African Scenic Safaris. They did an incredible job organizing our two week trip for us.
We started our trip with the trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Everything was executed seamlessly, from the pickup at the airport, to the gear rentals, to the hike itself. My sister and I had a team of 13 amazing guides/porters assist us throughout the 7 day climb. We were able to successfully summit Mount Kilimanjaro on January 2. What a way to start the New Year/decade! We definitely would not have been able to do it without the dedication and care the team provided us. Our head guide, Joel, and assistant guide, Godwin, consistently checked in on us multiple times a day to make sure we were comfortable, eating enough, and drinking enough water. It’s also worth noting that African Scenic Safaris is a member of Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project, which was one of the main reasons why I chose to climb with them as we wanted to ensure that the company we chose treated the porters fairly. Additionally, I want to give a shoutout to Godwin for taking pictures of us on the summit. We were too exhausted to take pictures on our cameras, but Godwin and a porter did it for us. We’re thankful to have many great pictures from the summit.
After the climb, we did a 5 day, 4 night safari. Our guide/driver was Rasheed and he did an incredible job taking us around Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and Ndutu. He has extremely sharp eyes and was able to spot many different animals for us. We spotted the Big 5 two days into the safari! Rasheed is also an extremely experienced guide. He is very knowledgeable about all the animals and was able to answer all of our questions. Not only did we leave the trip with lots of incredible photos, but also knowledge on how to distinguish between male and female giraffes/elephants/etc. and more facts about impalas than I’ll ever need. We truly enjoyed learning so much about all the animals we spotted! Other highlights include watching a cheetah and her cubs (the cubs were quite playful so it was exciting to watch), seeing a pack of lionesses, and a herd of elephants. There were too many incredible moments to list them all.
Thank you to everyone at African Scenic Safaris for making this the most memorable trip for me and my sister.

Dear Guest

Belated review for our early December 6-day safari and 4-day Mount Meru hike. It was our first trip to Tanzania and first time on a safari. We had contacted a few operators to get quotes and we opted for African Scenic for a few reasons. First, they sent a VERY informative email with suggested itineraries that included full breakdown of costs and expectations/guidelines for tipping. They weren't the cheapest option, but we wanted a local operator that pays fair wages to porters and guides. Mary was our main contact person. She responded to every email within 24 hours. We had initially asked about a 5 day safari but Mary's suggestion for Ndutu intrigued us and we added a 6th day. I would not have known to add Ndutu without her recommendation. Ndutu had one one of my favorite experiences, because we saw a pride of 18 lions! We stayed in tented camps or lodges that Mary recommended and all were wonderful.
Our safari guide was Jimmy. He is an experienced guide and driver, with superb knowledge of animals, geography, history, on top of sharp eyes for spotting animals from afar. He shared a lot of information about animal behaviors, biology, conservation practices, etc. We experienced quite a bit of rain during what was supposed to be "short rains" season, such that some roads were flooded. Jimmy navigated the waters and floods expertly. On the last day, on our way back to Arusha, we saw another safari vehicle with mechanical issues on the side of the road. Jimmy pulled over to help. The other driver from another company did not carry the proper tools to fix an issue with a tire, nor did he have the knowledge or experience to troubleshoot. Jimmy used his own tools and got down on the ground to help the other driver. This experience showed me how critical it is to work with an operator that has proper vehicles, trained guides, and backup support in case of an emergency.
Our guides for the Meru hike were Joel and George. Initially I thought it was unnecessary to have 2 guides for 2 people, but on summit day I was glad that we had 2 guides because we started hiking in the middle of the night in the dark and in the rain, and I experienced altitude sickness. In this context it made sense to have one guide in the front and one guide in the back. Our team was fantastic. Food was always filling and plentiful, so much so that I felt bad that porters were carrying so much weight. The sleeping bags that we rented/hired were very warm.
There were a few minor details that were mixed up or unclear but overall we had an incredible visit. I would recommend African Scenic to anyone and would happily work with them again if we ever have the good fortune to return.

Dear Client,
We are thrilled to read this review of your Mount Meru climb and safari. We would like to thank you for taking the time to write down your experience.
We are as you say members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project & the International Mountain Explorers Connection. This means we are one of the leading companies in providing fair treatment and conditions for our porters. We pay them great salaries and ensure they have adequate clothing/sleeping conditions etc.
It is lovely you felt you were provided with an easy and quick system for enquiring and booking and that you enjoyed the time you spent with Jimmy on the safari who gave you such a wonderful safari seeing all the amazing animals including Ndutu which is very special at that time of year.
We are also happy to hear about your experience with the climbing crew for the Mount Meru crew who took care of you and provided good food and expert guiding.
Even despite some of the weather you faced we are so pleased you enjoyed both experiences
Once again we thank you for travelling and climbing with us and for the wonderful recommendation
Hope to see you in Tanzania again in the future
Kind regards

Our 10 day safari with African Scenic Safaris was a wonderful experience - we had high expectations and they were exceeded. The company’s communications were prompt, and the itinerary gave us the opportunity to see different environments and all the wildlife we had hoped for - including all of the ‘big 8’. Our guide was Grayson - he was exceptionally knowledgeable, very friendly and has an incredible eye for spotting animals. If you’re planning a trip to Tanzania, you could not do better.

Being on our bucket list for years, we finally decided to book our dream safari in August 2021. After interacting with 10+ safari companies we decided to choose for African Scenic Safaris and we absolutely don’t regret it!!! During the booking process Nembris always replied quickly, but extensively and her advice for our itinerary and overnight stays were honest, correct and extremely helpful. She was able to give us a real tailor-made feeling.
The other reason we choose for this company were the reviews and the feedback about the guide Tom and we confirm they were not exaggerated at all. Tom is the best guide we could imagine. He is a very good driver (no need for an extra person in the car in my opinion since Tom can perfectly combine spotting and driving) and above all he is world class in spotting and reading the behaviour of animals. He was ALWAYS able to predict the next movement based on reading the situation which brought us – together with his passion for photography – always in the perfect spot to make the best pictures and live the moment. We were also very pleased he took the time – in contrarily to many other guides – to give the animal the time to move (we have been the only car with a leopard at ‘touching distance’ for over an hour). During our 8 days safari we have seen everything we could ask for: all of the big 5 at a distance of less than 1-5 meters including many leopards, amazing Mara river crossings, a hyena eating a Wildebeest, cheetahs next to the car on the road and so much more. Lastly, Tom doesn’t stick to a fixed schedule and follows the pace of the animals – frequently, we were the first car leaving and last one arriving back in the accommodation, which we can’t be more thankful for as we asked to see as much as possible!
We strongly believe that with other guides and companies our experience would not have been what it is now. We strongly recommend booking your safari with African Scenic Safaris and asking for Tom as guide and you can’t be better off!

African Scenic Safaris organised our trek to Kilimandjaro via the Machame route (6 days). The guides (Antipas, Head Guide, and his assistants Emmanuel and George) have been great: safety was paramount, adjusting pace to our energy level and taking good care. The food was really good and varied, which in camps at 4600m is anything but easy. The organisation (tents, porters, transfers, quality of rental gears,...) has been flawless. All of this really helped us making it to the top!
If you are considering a Kili trek, you could hardly be in better hands. We strongly recommend their services.

Dear Sacha,
I hope you are well.
It is wonderful to hear about your Kilimanjaro climb with the African Scenic Safaris Team and we are thrilled to hear you had such a fantastic experience. The mountain team are very well trained in adjusting the walking and the climb to the clients needs and we are so happy you enjoyed the food which is as you say difficult to cook in challenging circumstances.
We pride ourselves on offering a quality service and also safety and customer care is so important to us and we are glad we were able to achieve that.
We hope you will consider coming back to Tanzania in the future, perhaps to do a safari
Many thanks again

This is one of the best experiences we've ever had, and we owe it to the dedication and professionalism of African Scenic Safaris. In our early research, we found that this company was the most flexible with itinerary and that everyday was filled with the actual safari. (Some companies have the first and last day as arrival or transportation days.) Also, we felt strongly about supporting a local company and not a multi-national one that often were slow to respond and much more expensive.
From the beginning, Mary was quick to respond to all my emails and barrage of questions and texts. We made a few easy changes to make the safari of our choosing, including adding Oldupai Gorge. She also recommended Ndutu in order to see the wildebeest migration, which was a highlight. Our entire trip was planned in 2 weeks!
The safari itself exceeded our expectations! We loved every location we visited: Tangarire NP, Manyara NP, Ndutu, Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Crater, and Oldupai Gorge. We stayed in tented lodges, all with excellent service, amenities, and food.
But what made our safari exceptional was our guide/driver, Thom. He is incredibly knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna, and answered all our questions. He helped us identify over 85 birds, and he was able to get us to incredible moments out in nature due to his persistence and patience, including the birth of a wildebeest calf. He was always patient with our requests to linger longer with our binoculars. He always let us know what the plan was for the day. And, Yes, we did see the Big 5 which was a bonus!
I can't speak more highly about this company and will recommend them without hesitation to all my friends and family. We hope to return to Tanzania again for another safari or Kilimanjaro trek in the near future.

We thank you for the recommendation and hope you will come back to visit us again in Tanzania

My partner and I went on a 3 days safari in August 2023 with African Scenic Safaris. It was our first time in Africa/Tanzania and on a safari and it's safe to say it wont be the last! We had a blast! We picked African Scenic Safaris because a friend recommended it to us and were really glad with our choice! African Scenic Safaris advised us really well around what to best do with the time we had in Tanzania, they organised the whole trip for us based on what we wanted and were really professional!
We ended up going to Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere) by plane from Zanzibar. African Scenic Safaris took care of booking our flights and our driver Endrick was ready to pick us up when we arrived. We then went on for two days of game drive through the park where in one day we already managed to see all possible animal - lions, giraffes, hippos, elephants, crocodiles etc. Our driver was really good at picking an itinerary that would give us the highest chance to see animals while also showing us different types of vegetation in the park. The whole experience was a perfect mix between being busy all day and making most of our time there but also giving us the time we needed/wanted in the morning and during lunch to chill/take a break. Endrick was really knowledgeable about the park and the animals and gave us lots of insights during the tour. For lunch we enjoyed at packed lunch from where we stayed (Nyerere Tented Camp).
On the last day we did a walking safari in the morning which consisted of a two hours walk outside the park with a local guide and a ranger. It was very engaging and interesting. Later, we did a boat safari on the river and saw baby crocodiles, hippos and lots of birds. Afterwards, we visited a masai village not too far away which was really nice too.
Overall, we had an incredible experience and would totally do it again. I 100% recommend African Scenic Safaris because of their price-quality and professionalism.

My wife and I did a safari which included Tarangire, Ngorongoro, the Serengeti, and Lake Natron for five nights and six days. We had an amazing experience with African Scenic Safaris. Our guide Grayson was extremely attentive and prioritized the animals we were most excited to see. My wife loves cats and Grayson was able to spot countless lions, three serval cats, three cheetahs, and even a leopard. I was also able to see two families of jackals, which was a huge priority of mine. And every day we saw so many other animals, basically all the species you would hope to see when visiting Africa. Grayson is a skilled driver and extremely knowledgable about all of the animals and landscapes; his advanced training and education is evident. Our chef Omary was also amazing, he cooked three delicious and huge meals every day. At each meal, we had several dishes to choose from, and it was amazing to see what he could cook with just a fire as we had chosen the camping option. He cooked traditional Tanzanian, Italian, and American dishes, among others. His soups were the highlight of every meal. I would not hesitate to recommend African Scenic Safaris for your Tanzanian wildlife experience. They’re a locally run Tanzanian company that customize your safari needs. Lastly, Priyank was also extremely helpful with the booking process. My wife spoke with Priyank extensively through email to make sure that our safari would include the places we wanted to see within a budget we were comfortable with. African Scenic Safaris is the perfect company from start to finish.

Hope to see you again one day!

"Amani Yako Ni Nini?" The highlight of the trip: the warm and adventurous spirit of the African Scenic Safari team.
First, experiencing 8 days climbing Kilimanjaro along the Northern Circuit with Joel, Praygod, and the jovial "kakas" who taught me Swahili during our fast climbs and our slow meals (and sometimes vice versa).
Second, experiencing 4 days trekking Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and Manyara with wise and witty Tommy who taught me the wildest animals are inside the Landcruisers.
Third, coordinating these memorable experiences with helpful Simbo & Ferdinandy who taught me anything is possible on the way to catch a flight or a sunrise at Uhuru Point.
Thank you for the beautiful example of fellowship, especially in these times of distance and division. Having you all help us celebrate ReGeneración Colombia through our first peace sessions in Africa is particularly appreciated.
Hugs. Abrazos. "Paranawe!" ;-)

Hi I was thinking about doing your February grand African safari but was wondering if that was the best time weather wise
Written 2 October 2019
Thanks for contacting African Scenic Safaris, we are operating safari in Tanzania only, I can see you have ask for Grand African Tour of which cover the subsaharan countries.
If you were thinking about Tanzania, February is definitely the best time to visit and get closer to over 3 millions of wildebeest dropping babies everywhere together with over 4 hundreds of zebra and gazelles, while predator are waiting for easy catch, all this in the southern Serengeti National park, which has been voted the best wildlife destination in the world. It's one of the world Nature wonders and one not to miss, to experience this we will recommend not less than 5days on Northen Tanzania which will includes visiting nearby park like Ngorongoro Crater.
Looking forward to hear from you.
Regards

Hello! I am looking to get information on a safari! Can someone please contact me at..... themillersonthemove@gmail .... I would like the following questions answered 1) We will be starting our safari Sept 27, 2019, and would prefer it to be a 4 day safari ending on the 30th. We want to be in the correct area to 100% see the wildebeest migration? that is our #1priority for us to picking the perfect safari. 2) is there a fly in OR fly out option? if so how much more does that cost? (we are okay with one way driving and one way flying. just trying to use are time wisely while still not going way over budget. :) 3) if it is possible to fly in OR fly out.... we will be coming from Nairobi and after the safari heading to Kigali. Is it possible to fly into the serengeti in Tanzania from Nairobi Kenya? OR from the Serengeti to Kigali? or do we HAVE to fly into mt Kilimanjaro/arusha? 4) what are the accommodation options 5) Is there Wifi at the accommodations that we will be staying or do you know if there is Verizon reception around camp? We will need some sort of reception to check in with work. 6) we would like this to be a 4 day safari starting on Sept 27th ending on Sept 30th. Excited to hear back from you!! :) thank you, Bethany

Sounds like you are trying to customize an off-the-rack safari.
- You can fly into an airport directly in the center of the Serengeti, near (2km) to the Visitors Center. There are no hotels or services at the airport, a single lodge is adjacent to that visitors center. I am sure the lodge can arrange a custom tour of the Serengeti. Good Luck.
- Nobody can sell you a ticket in advance to the Wildebeest migration. The time and route vary each year based on climate and factors known to the wildebeests. Tour guides and operators are all licensed, they are not going to take you off the road, or allow you out of the vehicle in any remote location just because the migration is going on.
- The drivers from all of the companies stay in touch by radio and let each other know where the lions are mating, which kopje has the leopard baby visible, when the hippos are leaving their mud hole, and where ever the migrating wildebeests or zebras are crossing the road or stream.
There is probably not enough to see for four days in the Serengeti - unless you have a special pass for National Geographic or BBC. They get to set up and wait for hours or days if necessary. What most visitors do is a half day in Terangire National Park, 2.5 days in Serengeti, at least a day in Ngorogoro Crater N.P. The last one is the most guaranteed place to see wildlife, its a closed crater and a million animals to wander around. Also consider visiting Olduvai in the Serengeti.
- Most of the guide companies are set up outside the parks, and live in Arusha or Moshi. You will still have to pay for the day for them to drive in to meet you and then drive back. You might as well join them for the Safari Massage (bumpy drive) and enjoy the side trips, visits, Maasai boma, et cetera.
I stil suggest starting with Mary at African Scenic. She customized Kilimanjaro an dSerengeti trips for two groups (oldsters/millennials) and everything went great.
If you want to summit Kilimanjaro you can be on the mountain the day the plane lands at Kili airport, and on a flight out after 6PM the day you come down.
- There is no way to do that for the Wildebeest migration and the Serengeti. Those amazing NatGeo pictures are rare sights and captured by people with permission to camp remotely.
There are a handful of campgrounds in the Serengeti, African Scenic suggested it was best to camp in tents nearest wherever the animals are in a very large park. The alternative is a single centrally located lodge which will require you to get up at 3AM instead of the 6AM to catch the morning predators and sights.
Upvote please if this was useful.

I traveled with African Scenic Safaris on a 4 day 3 night "Short and Sweet" safari and it was perfect. We spent the first night at Lake Manyara, the second night in the Serengeti, and the third night in the Ngorongoro Crater. We saw all kinds of wildlife, including the big five and many others. We saw at least 20 lions. We had the option of visiting a maasai village, but did not choose to stop and visit, so I can not speak to that. For a 4 day safari, we felt the trip and itinerary were excellent and plenty of time. We enjoyed our guide and loved the food.

hi, how can i see teh prizes, if i have $ 600 US, is enough to do at least a short safari?

I agree with Lindsay M. Amanda is very helpful and will design a trip to fit your budget. Even just a one-day or overnight trip to Tarangire National Park will give you the opportunity to see an amazing amount of wildlife. It would be worthwhile if you can swing it.

I will be there for the marathon in March. Is it possible to do a safari over 1.5 days and with little effort? I don’t want to strain myself before or after the race.

It would be a rushed visit. You would definitely be able to see some animals.

Hello, quick question for you. We're debating about going with African Scenic Safaris. We were told we would have 1 guide who would also serve as our driver. Was this your experience and did you feel like having someone who was both guide and driver was problematic at all? Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Aliya,
I had exact the same experience. Greyson was our guide and a driver in the same time. That was actually the best solution as once he noticed an animal he was driving us to the best spot right away. He was also stopping in the perfect places for us to take the most beautiful pictures, for example of the sunset around savanna ❤️
African Scenic is worth your attention.

Has anyone got an experience using this company for Safari, Kilimanjaro & Zanzibar. We're trying to cram all into a 3 week trip if possible. All reviews I've read about the company are glowing!! That's really positive.
We were thinking of doing a safari first, just to get over the jetlag, followed by Kilimanjaro and then a few days down time on Zanzibar.
Suggestions or comments appreciated

We were a group of three as well. We ended up paying a little bit extra to have the Safari as a private one so we could spread out in the car and move around for the best viewpoints.
In terms of the itinerary, we did Kilimanjaro first as we wanted to get the hard bit out of the way so we could relax for the rest of the trip. We then did the Safari, and then turned into vegetables on the beaches of Zanzibar. If we were to do it again, we would probably do it the same way. TBH, sitting down in the Safari vehicle for 6+ hours a day probably wont do your muscles any good before the hike, but up to your group. We spent 2 days in Moshi and stretched out legs out by visiting the town, and walking around a fair bit to loosen the muscles up, we were fine by the time we started our trek.
We based ourselves in Moshi flying out of Kili Airport for both the Hike and Safari. We then flew to Zanzibar on our self organised trip.
Yes, flights were on the pricy side (from Melbourne). We had to fly to the UAE (Abu Dhabi) then fly to Kenya (Nairobi), and then on to Tanzania (Kili). That was the quickest flight we could find.
We brought most of our own gear, you can rent some of the stuff when you get to Tanzania (during the pre climb meeting) but in retrospect I hired some wet weather gear that I probably should have just bought myself from like a sportsdirect or something.
Temps on summit night probably the coldest you will experience. I Think it was -9c when we went in Jan.
Can't recall the cost as we added in a few things such as portable toilet, and then the government slapped the VAT tax on our trip. It was all done in USD though. Prices were very reasonable compared to some of the bigger companies.

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
