About
Makasa is a tour operator in Moshi, Tanzania. We organize tailor-made tours for individuals as well as groups. Our clients typically include couples, families, and groups of friends. Tanzania is often readily associated with safaris, and quite justifiably so, as the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater are host to some of the world's most spectacular wildlife. But apart from safaris, we also organize adventure tours to Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa, as well as holidays of a lifetime to the sun-soaked beaches of Zanzibar. All options are open, in every imaginable combination. The secret of Makasa's success lies in our personal service and approach. We will help you plan and organize the entire tour package of your choice, carefully considering aspects such as group composition, available budget and travelling schedule. Based on the outcome of these considerations, we will work with you to optimize your itinerary and set up the arrangements down to the finest detail.

- Martha L1 contributionTanzania is a country with beautiful nature, animals and friendly people.Just returned from a fantastic trip in 2016, I came into contact with the holiday fair in Utrecht. After a very nice conversation and information, I decided to book with Makasa. I really liked everything, everything was tip top. This year was my 6th time staying with Makasa. I've been to Tanzania, that says enough!!! You can never get tired of it. I have experienced the crossing of the wildebeest over the Mara River, it is indescribable! What a spectacle. The southern parks are also worth a visit. If you are considering going on safari to Tanzania, I can highly recommend Makasa. - espedi2015Rotterdam, The Netherlands254 contributionsTop guideWent out with Makasi for a week. A fantastic experience, not least because of our guide Agostino. In addition to having an enormous knowledge of nature and a magical eye for spotting animals, he is a very pleasant person to travel with for a week through beautiful nature. Has humor and is very spontaneous. Without him it certainly wouldn't have been as much fun. Everything else was well arranged and you didn't have to worry about anything with accommodations. And if there was anything, there was always Agostino to help you.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 February 2024
- Anja + Jens21 contributionsMAKASA and Humphrey - that's all you need for a dream safari in Tanzania! Our 4th safari in Tanzania, which was again perfectly organized by Selma from MAKASA, was a dream! As always, our guide was Humphrey, who made every day an absolute experience. We would never go on a safari without Humphrey - there is no better guide for us! Humphrey knows every national park like the back of his hand, always has a plan of where to find animals, anticipates where predators will kill their prey and is in exactly the right place when that happens. Humphrey is a walking encyclopedia with endless knowledge of all large and small animals, knows practically every bird and can explain the migration of large herds like no other. He also always finds the perfect spot with the best light for photographers. Humphrey is also an incredibly nice person - he is a legend among the guides, everyone knows him because he has helped almost everyone at least once to find the way or an animal that customers were longing for - e.g. the caracal in the Serengeti, which the photographers so desperately needed. Humphrey is helpful, sensitive and humorous, we always have a lot of fun together and in the 8 years that we have known each other we have become best friends and are constantly in touch. MAKASA and Humphrey are our absolute recommendation for anyone who wants to go on a safari in Tanzania that they will never forget.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 March 2024
- Koen S6 contributionsUnforgettable experience(s)We had a wonderful 17-day trip in Tanzania and Zanzibar. Moses was our kind and knowledgeable guide during the ten days safari. Besides being an excellent guide, he also turned out to be an excellent driver. Which was absolutely necessary on the bad roads at the beginning of the rainy season. During this period there are many young animals. We found it fascinating how, for example, young wildebeest ran next to their mothers. The experience of the animals in Ndutu was especially wonderful because you can get close to them 'off-road'. During this time you have to travel a lot in that area! Makasa had everything neatly organized, all good overnight stays and all our transport to the lodges and hotels was well arranged.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 March 2024
- jka7672 contributionsAmazing nature with excellent Masaka-guide Humphrey. We had a perfect safari with Makasa-guide Humphrey. Thanks to Humphrey we did not only see everything and more than we expected (including the Big Five and part of the Great Migration), but also we enjoyed a pleasant and safe stay in this beautiful country. Humphrey is well educated and experienced in nature, so we learned a lot. Highly recommended!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 March 2024
- KarenThe Netherlands105 contributionsTraveling with Makasa is highly recommended!!This was our fourth time traveling with Makasa and certainly not the last time. This trip was also very special. Thanks to Selma's organizational talent and the way she flawlessly senses what suits us, we had great accommodations and everything was arranged down to the last detail. And thanks to our fantastic guide Humphrey without whose knowledge, experience and enormous drive the trip wouldn't be half as good. We have traveled a lot through Africa, sometimes independently, sometimes organized, but we lost our hearts to Tanzania, Makasa and Humphrey! I recommend everyone to visit Tanzania at least once in your life and do it through Makasa to be assured of a tailor-made trip that suits you with good cars and excellent guides who know the parks and their roads well.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 April 2024

Very good accommodations, beautiful nature and route, but above all a very skilled, fun and enthusiastic guide. Augustino had a lot to tell and spotted the animals from a distance. Then relax for a while in Zanzibar. A very special trip for us as a family where we made wonderful memories.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 May 2024
- Han S1 contributionUnforgettable family trip to TanzaniaWe have just returned from our unforgettable trip with our family (4 children aged 13-21) to Tanzania. Our trip started in Moshi at the end of April. We spent a few days there at the AMEG lodge, a beautiful location. Godwin was our expert, friendly driver these first days. Then we spent 2 days with the Masai. Here we were initiated into the traditions of the Masai. That was a very special experience. We were taken into their way of life. Then our 10-day safari began. Augustino was our enthusiastic guide. He knew a lot about nature and told us a lot about his country and culture. We started our safari in Tarangire park. We saw a lot there. Unfortunately, there were also many tsetse flies, which stung annoyingly, which our children did not appreciate. But that didn't spoil the fun. Then we drove on for a 4-day safari in the Serengetti. We stayed at the Elewana Pioneer Lodge, a beautiful tented camp in the middle of the Serengetti. We enjoyed the landscape, all the animals, but also the delicious food and the hospitality and luxury in the lodge. Then we went to the Ngorogoro crater, where we also spent a day driving around. It is unbelievable how beautiful it was there and how many species of animals can be found there. We were there in the rainy season. We had some rain twice in the morning, but otherwise the weather was beautiful. Because it had rained a lot in the weeks before, driving in the parks was a challenge because of all the puddles and mud. But Augustino is an experienced driver and this turned out to be fine for him. We are happy with our choice of this beautiful country. We are very satisfied with Makasa, the way it was all arranged and the lodges. And we were very happy with Godwin and Augustino!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 May 2024

We visited Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro and saw everything we hoped for, even though not all roads could be prepared due to the rainy season that was just about over. the very good lodges/tented camps were in beautiful locations. And the guide... we couldn't have asked for a better one. Recommended!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 May 2024

Makasa were recommended to us by a friend who lives in Tanzania. They did not disappoint! The safari was fabulous from start to finish - we were able to arrange a 6 day safari in a private jeep staying in luxury accommodation for around the same price as a basic package as part of a group was quoted from a major UK high street chain.
Our driver Daniel was lovely, extremely knowledgeable about the local area and the wildlife, and happy to go off the beaten track (especially one day when he recommended we travel to South Serengeti which involved several extra hours driving, but allowed us to see a serval cat, 12 Lions, & 10 cheetah including a mother and cub stalking gazelle and a pack with a freshly caught kill with no crowds and only 1 other vehicle at each), and an expert and positioning the jeep to get the perfect angle for a photograph. His ability to spot an animal was simply unbelievable. The Jeep was clean and comfortable. The accommodation was of an extremely high standard - particularly the Sound of Silence camp which was better than some 5 star hotels we have stayed in!
We would certainly recommend any of of our friends use Makasa, and when we return we wouldn't use anyone else.
Thanks again to Selma and Makasa for a trip we will remember forever!

A friend of ours recommended Makasa for our 8 days safari trip in Tanzania and it was the best recommendation ever. We were extremely satisfied from the first minute until the last day. As this was our first safari trip, we obviously had no idea where we should plan to go and were super happy with Selma’s help and the itinerary she compiled for us. It was the perfect mixture of days in Arusha national park, Lake Manyara, Serengenti and Ngorongoro Crater with exceptional accommodations throughout our entire trip. Our driver Fredy is a real asset of Makasa, he drove us so many hours and there was not one single second where we did not feel 100% safe. In parallel, he also had a great eye to spot animals and plants and we were surprised he did not get tired to answer all of our questions. He explained us so many things about the country, culture, people, religions, etc. which really made this trip a true experience of a lifetime. This was definitely not out last trip to Tanzania and we will for sure again book it with Makasa.

Makasa was recommended by a client of us, and so we booked a ten day Safari and six days for relaxing in Sansibar. Except the flights from Vienna via Zürich to Daressallam ( SWISS - very recommandable) the whole Organisation(safari, lodges, hotel, flights, transfers), was in the Hands of Makasa and they did a great job. Every detail was perfectly planed and realized.
Always remember : The guide makes the Safari, and our guide Kalebie did really a great job. We learned so much about the contry, the people, nature and the animals, we were always on the right time at the right place ( big five!!) and we always felt very safe with him. Besides he is a real nice guy and spending 10 days together was a pleasure.
If you plan a safari we recommend at least 8 days, so that you can enjoy the beauty of the country without stress. You sleep at outstanding places , for instance sound of silence tented camp, and its good to have always 2 nights at each stop.
We will return to Tansania for sure and we will go with Makasa again!

Had some colleagues go with another company the week before I went with Makasa and our experiences were day and night. Makasa takes care of everything for you, all you have to do is get in the car and have your camera ready! You get to stay inside the parks (which is a must) and they hire professional and well-educated guides who drive clean and safe vehicles. Other companies had guys who were great Kili guides, but didn't know much about nature/wildlife in the parks. I'm pretty sure our guide Freddie could have given David Attenborough a run for history money, plus he was so thoughtful with my mother who joined us on the trip. He was friendly but not intrusive, and he always knew the best way through the tricky park roads as the rain kicked in. The lodges are incredibly luxurious and it was such a gift to have Makasa take care of all of the logistics for us. Selma, who runs the company, tailored our itinerary for us and answered a million questions I sent her before the trip. Just book with Makasa and dad o your safari right, you're probably only going to do it once!

Thanks to Makasa, we have just returned from the best trip of our lives. Safari planning is such an overwhelming job but with the help of Selma, we managed to get the adventure of a lifetime for my son, husband and myself. Selma is always there to suggest, help and plan and certainly has the experience to choose just the right option for your group. She handled numerous changes to the itinerary without any problems, and changes were many.
Once in Tanzania, Caleby was our driver/guide and made our trip so much more special. We always felt safe and the natural instinct plus his experience took us to the most amazing sightings in the parks. Caleby anticipated what we needed and gave us space when we needed it. Absolutely the best person to accompany you on such an adventure.
Thank you Makasa, it is our biggest desire to work with you again!

I went together with my daughter on a 12 day safari and 5 days Zanzibar. We started in the Africa Amini Life Original Maasai Lodge for 2 days where we taste a little bit of the Maasai life. Also we made a bush walk and a bush breakfast where we had our first encounters with the wild life. Only standing a few meters from some zebra’s and giraf’s. After those two days we where picked up by our guide Agustino who showed us three national parks in about 9 days. First we went to lake manyara national park which was introduces as the trailer for the Serengeti national park. We can honestly say that it was a great trailer to sell the movie. After that we went for 6 days to the Serengeti national park where we found so many animals, including the great migration, 4 of the big five and a wonderful stay at the Kimbilio Serengeti Camp. Last but not least we went to Ngorongoro crater where we spotted the last of the big five. With special thanks to Agustino. His sharp eyes made it possible to spot them all, and the knowledge over the wild life and parks learned us so much that we would highly recommend him.
After the safari's we had a restful stay in zanzibar and again the hotel where we stayed was perfect.
All in all it was unforgetable, with perfect arangements and everything was perfect arranged.
I would highly recommand Makasa Tanzania Safaris, they realy take good care of you.
Also a good recommandation is to take a balloon trip over the Serengeti, you won’t be disappointed

We just came home from a great trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar. Of course we had high expectations of this dream trip, but it was far beyond that. Incredible to really see wild life in their natural environment in some many numbers!. After a enthusiastic Facebook-live presentation of Selma Kamm from Makasa we were convinced that Makasa fitted best with our wishes. And that worked out very well. From the moment we arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport until we left from Zanzibar Airport everything was very well taken care off.
For eight days we were guided and driven by the excellent Francis, a guide who knew every road in the parks we visited, without ever consulting a map or TomTom. With enormous knowledge of the animals and nature he drove us around and showed us more than 40 different species. Always kind, helpful in looking for the right angle for taking pictures and asking if we were okay with the program. And yes we were very content, in eight days we visited Park Tarangire, Park Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and of course the Serengeti. This sequence was very well chosen. Great to safe the best for last: the immense expanse of Serengeti was very impressive combined with staying in the new Kimbilio Camp in Northern Serengeti. We stayed their for three nights in the very well equiped camp. Francis was very right constantly saying 'Serengeti will never die'. Among many others he managed to show us the wildebeest crossing the river and even on the last morning driving to the airstrip we got our 'cherry on the cake': a cheetah family, mom, dad and three cubs. So yes, Makasa made a great programma, Francis made it all happen! He stole our heart and we will always remember him as the one who showed us all the beautiful creatures of God's hand.
Next to nature we're also very interested in history. On the way to Serengeti we made a very interesting stop in Olduvai, the archeological site where mankind started million years ago. More history we consumed in Stone Town, Zanzibar, where we made a guided walking tour through old town, learning more about the history of this town and the role slavetrade played here.
And then there was time to rest. In the lovely hotel Mahali right at the beach of Pajé, Zanzibar, we had a great time at the beach to process all we had seen in the week before. Swimming and snorkeling in the Indian Ocean, watching kiters on the waves, biking the beach, eating great fishplates at night, enjoying the care of the great staff of Mahali.
So if you ever have a chance of making a trip like this, don't hesitate, Go for Tanzania and Zanzibar, book your trip at Makasa and ask for Francis as your guide!

Makasa created a personolized 14-day trip for us as our daughter's graduation gift: half safari, half beach time in Zanzibar with a stopover in Stonetown with a private guide and visit to a spice farm. I cannot recommend the Makasa team (especially Selma) enough! They were extremely responsive and really listened to the types of places we wanted to stay, things we wanted to do, made specific changes and suggestions for us. Every single place we stayed from a Masai safari lodge to tented camps to the resort on Zanzibar was perfect, the food was excellent, and we loved our private safari guide Temba. One of the things we especially appreciated was that on the safari we spent the days moving gradually north from Arusha, but at the end instead of having to drive back for 12+ hours, Makasa booked us on a flight back - no other tour companies proposed that to us. I truly cannot recommend Makasa enough - you will not be sorry if you book with them!

From start to finish Selma has been great. This was our 3rd safari and we can honestly say it was our best. From the planning stages to the trip itself eveything went smoothly. We spent 4 nights in Zanzibar and 14 nights in northern Tanzania. We specially asked Selma for an " off the beaten track safari" and we got just that. Every lodge/ camp was incredible from the Masai to the sounds of zebra chewing by your tent at Kimbilio tented camp- each place we stayed offered something different and unique. Selma was happy to switch our itinerary round to suit our needs and makes great recommendations. Selma always answered our questions promptly, checked in with us regulalry during our trip and constructed the perfect private safari for us. We can highly recommed King our guide who was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly joining in with our family's sense of humour. If your looking to book a safari to Tanzania book with Makasa as you will not be disappointed.

Makasa organised a trip for our family of 4 (incl 2 teenage boys). Our trip started with 5days on Zanzibar. Excellent hotel (Mahali) on a dream-come-true-location right on the beach with friendly staff. Good start to relax.
We flew to Moshi which saved a lot of time. Very noisy, I advise ear plugs.
The hike into the mountains (Materuni falls) was impressive, very nice atmosphere.
From there our guide took us to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Ngorongoro Crater(tip: take the hike to the elephant caves & falls) and the Serengeti.
Our guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable, fun to be with and a save driver (we also saw different). Each camp we stayed in was an experience. Quality differs, but non of them was poor. Our favourite was Rhotia valley. view, food and staff were excellent.
Safari was exhausting, mainly because of all the impressions you get during the day. Therefore, it was good to have some quiet days in between.
Makasa made a very nice combination of this all where they listened very good to our wishes. Before the trip we received very clear information. Also during the trip we had some contact, which was pleasant and to the point.

We are very interested in your safari! Can someone please contact me at..... themillersonthemove@gmail .... I would like the following questions answered
1) We will be starting our safari Sept 27, 2019, will we be in the correct area to 100% see the wildebeest migration? that is our #1priority for us to picking the perfect safari.
2) if not is there a fly in or fly out option? if so how much more does that cost? (we are okay with one way driving and one way flying. just trying to use are time wisely while still not going way over budget. :)
3) if it is possible to fly in OR fly out.... we will be coming from Nairobi and after the safari heading to Kigali. Is it possible to fly into the serengeti in Tanzania from Nairobi Kenya? OR from the Serengeti to Kigali? or do we HAVE to fly into mt Kilimanjaro/arusha?
4)Is there Wifi at the accommodations that we will be staying or do you know if there is Verizon reception around camp?
5) is there a 4 day option?
Excited to hear back from you!! :) thank you, Bethany
