Lots of activity! Busy fishing port with touristy activities if you choose. The hawkers will try and sell you there ware and services but will leave you alone after you say no. The wet fried fish with chipati is yummy.

I went to Dunga beach not once but twice and we would have gone again if we were still in Kisumu. The fish was tasty as usual and the view of the Lake made it worth the afternoon chill. The sky was blue and clear with boats docking and leaving for fishing and some to take people to see more of the Lake. I would definitely go back to Dunga beach!

Plenty of places to eat and drink, lots to watch as the fishing boats arrive back from their expeditions and the catch is sold off, many birds (storks, ibises, hammerkops) competing for their share of the catch as well. Great little boardwalk through the papyrus swamps to a watchtower to do more birdwatching and generally unwind. Lovely atmosphere altogether. 10 mins by taxi from downtown but a world away!

We picked up a boat and guide for an hours trip on Lake Victoria. We've done this twice before from Hippo Point but on this trip the 'official' guides were much more knowledgeable about the birds and wildlife on the lake. And we saw hippos - win win!

If you find yourself in Kisumu, this is a good way to spend a couple hours. You can take a Boda (motorcycle taxi) to Dunga Bay and basically just walk to the dock where there are boats waiting at all times to take visitors on a boat tour. I was traveling by myself and with one other solo traveler in the boat it cost me 1,500 shillings (~$15 USD) for one hour. I’m not sure if that’s a lot or not, but it felt fair for me. They’ll take you to hippo point, and we saw a couple hippos in the water. I hadn’t seen hippos yet on my trip so I enjoyed it, but I later went on a boat cruise in Murchison Falls, Uganda which but this one to shame. After the boat tour, I had the local fish (500 shillings for a fried Tilapia) and Tusker beer while looking over the lake. It was enjoyable, and a good activity while in Kisumu.

I didn't have prior arrangements but spend my morning sessions there for about 3hours with my guide. We had a great moment by riding a boat for a city view and observing how fishing is done along lake Victoria. There're communities around who mainly practice fishing. The boats ride are chargeable depending on the distance covered and amount of time spend.
