In the middle of the truly amazing, bucket list, salar (salt flat) it's an interesting sight in itself, but your ticket allows you to hike about 1km on a defined, one-way trail up and around the island (and visit the washroom -- we had to show our ticket to get in!) The added height gives great views across the salar (where the brightness reflected off the salt confused my camera's light metering) with the huge cacti in the foreground. A surprising number of birds also seem to call the island home.

Everyone on a tour also seems to have lunch here, hopefully at one of the shaded tables, or perhaps bringing their own table, chairs and shade.

This is beautiful and the views from the top are stunning…

But my goodness what a step and relentless climb in the sun!

No shelter and very hot.

Half way up was good enough views (I did go to the top) and found last bit of climb annoying!

An unusual site where any one get variety of experience. From climbing rock to the top, see hummingbird in a place surrounded by desert of tens of miles, lots of cactus. It’s a perfect place for a day trip.

They charge you fee to go in but it seems the fee is not used properly to take care of this fragile place. There are too many inside this island that are reckless and might ruin this great ecosystem.

After a long drive on the salt flats in intense sun light (bring good sun glasses!) we arrived at Isla Incahuasi and were treated to another unusual ecosystem. This small island surrounded by salt is home to an incredible collection of cactuses.

A few of our group made it to the top and got a fantastic view of the almost endless expanse of salt. We saw several bird species along the way.

We booked a full day tour and this was included after lunch at the abandoned Salt Hotel. It took close to an hour to arrive and allowed us time to digest an sleep a bit. You are allowed to hike around the island and marvel at the coral caves so far from the sea.

Incahuasi is an island in the middle of the salt flat and the island is full of cactus. In the top of the island, there is an incredible view of the salt flat. You can even spot some caves. Also, the island is well connected, different paths take you to different points on the island. Totally recommended!

We visited Isla on our trip to Uyuni, It's an amazing place, and everyone should see it one day. The cacti are beautiful and the view of the Salar from the peak is breathtaking. One of the most beautiful views I have ever seen in my life! Definitely a must-see in Bolivia.
