Laguna Colorada is an amazing place, but it is way, way off any track, beaten or otherwise. It is 5 or so hours' drive from Uyuni, most of it on dirt roads, tracks, or just dirt. The only practical way to see it is as a tour, or part of a longer tour.

The path up the rocky outcrop gives the best views, allowing for more reflection. Birds flying low give a reflection off the surface and a shadow, which is weird the first time you see it.

Red colored lake at the Bolivian altiplano. Its a nice place. The water is red to view from distance. There are lots of flamingos in the lake. The color of the lake is due to some kind of algae. The algae are eaten by the flamingos. The lake is vast. The landscape is beautiful. There is a small village nearby. Where any one can stay a night and have food, which is very rare in this part of the altiplano. We enjoyed a lot there.

Laguna Colorada is a breeding ground for Andean flamingos, migratory birds that number in the thousands in its mineral-rich waters. It is located within the Eduardo Abaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.
Simply a beautiful place
Without hesitation, I would return a thousand times more.

This lagoon is red due to the algae bloom. There were hundreds of flamingos when we visited. You can walk alongside the lagoon side. My 3 year old daughter loved this place

This lagoon has a red tint due to the algae bloom and which is clearly noticeable. There were many hundreds of flamingo when I visited. Sadly, sone idiot with a drone scared many off. You can walk alongside the lagoon side and there is a small refreshment place and viewing telescope. Great place to observe birds and lovely hilly backdrop. First rate when there are no drones!

Laguna Colorado is known for its beautiful colors and its pink flamingoes. We were just there, and saw thousands of them. However, for those expecting to take National Geography level of photos, beware that we are not allowed to get close to them. In fact, the white line painted on the ground forced us to be pretty far from them.

Extraordinary number of flamingos here. All three kinds which is unusual plus Andian ducks and more. Part of a two day expedition through the mountains and deserts of southwest Bolivia. Great trip but spots hitting almost 5,000 meters high a bit much at time. Lake is red because of the minerals

There were many flamingos here as well as in some of the other lagoons in this area. It was really amazing to see so many flamingos up at this altitude. They are brautiful creatures and it was a delight to see them. Didnt get close as the wildlife is protected.

There is an excellent area for viewing Laguna Colorada. There is also a small indoor display area that allows people to get out of the wind and has several explanatory posters on the wildlife and the ecology of the laguna. Good flamingo viewing.
