This beach was one of the stops on our Margarita Jeep Tour. The beach is relatively undeveloped and was really peaceful. There are chairs and shades available, 3 dollars for two chairs & a shade!! We had a nice lunch of barbequed fish in the beach bar.

This was a very calm and peaceful area. The water was nice and the road towards the beach is quite unique. It's a bit dry and something to behold.

Great place for those who look for peace. Very beautiful beach, with calm, hot and blue waters. There is place to eat and rest. Good place to go with family or children.

We had a nice time at this beach...the water was just perfect..it was of the stops on our jeep tour. The best part was swing the fishermen coming in with their catch. Never seen so much barracuda before.

As you near Punta Arenas there is a huge sign that says Penguinera. So rather than endure the choppy, cold boat ride out to Magdalena island we thought we would try the drive up version.
You drive about 15 minutes down a gravel road and just when you thought the sign must have been wrong you come to a little "pay here" shack where a not too bright young man sits listening to mettalica on a mini Computer.
He informs us that to visit the penguinera we have to cross private land so we need to pay. Ok, fair enough, but then he tells us that when you actually get to the beach you have to pay again because that is someone else's private land. Hmmm.
But you have come this far so you go ahead and pay and get a couple of stamped tickets in exchange.
5 more minutes of gravel road lands you at a small facility that has a bathroom, cafeteria and another "pay here" shack.
Here the girl is nice enough to say that that penguins are all out to sea eating and won't be back til maybe 5:00 pm but that there might be a couple on the beach, but that we
might not want to pay because we may not see much.
So we think maybe we should Come back later and we leave. We stop at the first shack and ask for our money back because there weren't any penguins. But the young man informs us that we have already passed private land so we have to pay. Which is perfect logic.
We ask if we can come back later when the penguins are back on the beach and he says No. Because he closes at 4:00pm. and we would have to pay again to pass private land anyway.
we don't know if that means he just leaves at 4:00pm or if he locks the gate too - which doesn't make sense because how would the people waiting on the beach get out if they wait until after 5:00 pm when the penguins start Coming back? - not to mention the people working there, but it's not worth the risk of getting locked In for the night.
So the moral of the story is don't try this in October. Wait til the penguins have laid their eggs and stay on the beach and be prepared to pay twice and don't bring your American express they only take cash.

The Punta Arena Beach is far from the city in Margarita Island, however it is a nice and beautiful beach, without waves, it has nice restaurants and you can rent chairs and umbrellas to spend a nice day in the beach. The restaurants have good food and it is a safe place to be.
If you have time and want to be in a nice beach, don't miss this one.
