Visiting the enigmatic Muai in person was a dream come true for my wife and I, and walking among them felt so surreal...there's truly nowhere else like this on the planet. Even during the Tapati Festival season there were hardly any other tourists when we arrived. There's a store selling food, water, beer, and souvenirs at the entrance. A couple... More

I can't really add much to comments by recent reviewers. We had a private guide and he added hugely to understanding the history of the island and the construction of the moai. It was one of the highlights of our holiday.

This should be the number 1 place to view. Luckily it is next to it. Great place to walk around and see Moai at various stages of construction, you can really see how they were made and transported to their sites. There are hundreds, abandoned when Moai building came to a sudden end.

If on Easter Island, you cannot miss the quarry where the moai were carved out of rock. The magnitude of the task ! The challenge of transporting these enormous figures to various points on the island! No one knows, or can say with authority, how this was accomplished.

The first time we went with a guide on a glorious sunny day, we ate lunch (pre ordered by tour company) then went to look around the quarry, it just seemed surreal that we were actually there!

I try to be as honest as I can be when writing these reviews to help others out, so I need to say that there are so many sections to Easter Island or Rapa Nui that some reviewers (including myself) might get them mixed up. The BEST way to see Easter Island is to take a tour. I would suggest... More

This section of the national park is really a must in order to understand the moais around the island. This was the quarry where they were built, and you can see some that were still being carved from the volcanic mountain, as well as some that stayed there, rather than being transported to other sites around the island. It gives... More

All the early pictures from Easter Island always show the "heads" at the quarry. I was sending pictures of the restored Moai on the platforms to my father and he kept asking to see pictures of the giant heads. Of course, these heads are just Moai in ditches to stand them upright for finishing that have become buried after the... More
