Recommended to everyone, who enjoys hiking. There are many trails with different levels of difficulties and duration. Plan at least half a day to visit the park, but multiple day stay is worthwhile nontheless. Unfortunately, aIgadn’t enough time to do a long hike, instead I did the ‘Cascada El Saltillo’ trail, which leads to a lovely waterfall at the end. Other activities such as boat trips, kayaking or swimming can be done too..
Roads are unpaved and varies in their condition (incl. some very bumpy sections). I was fine with an non-4x4 small car, but I imagine it becomes a difficult to impossible task, when roads are wet.
Park entry was 350 arg. Pesos p.p. (see photo of price list)
Opening hours of the park office: 8am to 8:00pm

Mount Lanin is spectacularly beautiful. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying a week in Junin de los Andes for outstanding fly fishing with Jack Trout internatonal. We took a day off from catching big browns on dry fly to drive up into the Lanin National Park for an exhilarating hike up to the base camp of the Volcan Lanin -- absolutely beautiful! And a very easy going hike. After the base camp of course it's serious mountaineering. Enjoy!!!

The National Park is very well organized, there is a trail from which you can start the ascent to the base of the volcano, through a magnificent forest of araucaria trees!

Great hiking to a waterfall, to the base of Lanin! I rate good rather than excellent only because our visit was in dry season and hikes were very dusty. Chilly mornings and evenings were refreshing and bird and sunset watching were excellent!

This is as good as it gets for an extreme mountain adventure ... if you are fairly fit and up for a challenge, climbing Volcan Lanin is demanding but doable, with a little luck from your legs, the weather and, importantly, your mindset. One third of the people who attempt to summit desist because they think it too daunting. That was nearly the case of my 14 year old son - who thought that trekking for 13 hours on Day 2 was beyond his capacity. He made it and it will be the jewel in his crown of achievements - perhaps for a lifetime ... or until he does it again.
By way of preparation, try climbing as many stairs as you can and bring all the appropriate gear as the conditions are constantly changing.

A majestic volcano right in the international limit between Argentina and Chile. A personal all-time favorite to climb.

To get to the volcano you have some paved roads and most of the road is unpaved and bumpy- several kilometers from the main road to the volcano (where the church is, by the river) and the roads are bumpy and not in good condition. There is a fee to enter the national park- use the restrooms here. There is really not much to do here (if you go in the colder/ early spring months) besides looking at the views which are beautiful but after being on a long unpaved bumpy road its hard to appreciate the sites until you get out of the car. On a clear day the volcano looks amazing. Not much was open when we went so we brought our own lunch and ate on the road. This is a nice side attraction if you have time- if you are pressed for time you may want to skip it because it takes awhile to get there because of the roads inside the park are poorly maintained.

Great view , really nice trail. A truly remarkable experience . Two days hike , first day up to Refugio La Caja, and leaving at 4am towards the summit . Crampons needed. Awesome view of nearby volcanos such as Villarica. Really worth the hike! Need really good physical condition for this, very steep hike with rocks , snow and ice.

We definitely recommend to do the 2-days hike to the top if you feel fit enough. This is an easy 3776m summit to do and for people unsure of them, there is plenty of companies offering to guide you to the top.

We hike the first day to the Refugio CAJA and enjoyed this first day. You are walking in a special environment with only volcanic rocks surrounding you, no vegetation. Just take plenty of water as you don't cross any streams (we did it at the end of the summer so they were no snow left). The night was quite cold as you are at almost 3000m and we slept in the tent. A bit before 5am, we start climbing the remaining kms to the top. It was a bit more difficult as the track is less well marked and we were self-guide. So it has been for us a bit of a challenge finding our way up but there was a group with a guide that start 30 min before us so we were able to follow more or less their head-torch lights.

The view from the summit was amazing and breathtaking.
The walk back down was long and painful :) but it so much worth it!!

Definitely a must-do
