The Big Country Route was on the cards for our annual mountain bike trip, we knew it wasn't technical, but the distance and scenery was going to change things up a bit. As we were staying in Newton Stewart, we realised that it actually made...More

Did the "Big Country" trail, its a good mix of off road and quiet B road. Need a full day but worth it.

Excellent outdoor marked walks in beautiful countryside over varying distances. There are also trails for mountain bikers. There is a cafe next to the car park with a couple of tables/chairs outside. It is paid parking and cheaper the longer you stay.

Having driven from Barr over the forest road, we looked forward to visiting Glentrool but frankly found it very disappointing with little information about the area.

No maps available at the visitor centre, just told to take a photo of the one in the car park. So had to keep getting phone out, gloves off, zoom in on map. Not very good for a 40 mile bike ride. Other cycle route...More

Visited the area and went on one of the short walks, then had a delicious cake and drink at the Visitor centre. There are a number of walks you can do, all colour coded, for easy access, or if you just want to mess about...More
