The National Lobster Hatchery is a conservation, education and research...

The National Lobster Hatchery is a conservation, education and research charity based in Padstow, Cornwall. We exist primarily to help conserve the vulnerable lobster populations and preserve the coastal marine bio-diversity of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We have a visitor centre which offers a unique window into our lobster hatchery and has a wealth of information about these amazing creatures, the fishery and the importance of a sustainable fishery. Come and see our baby and giant lobsters. Are you brave enough to put your hand in our eel cave? The Visitor Centre is open everyday (except Christmas Day) from 10am but closing times vary. Please check our website for confirmation.

it was smaller than I remembered, but the lady who was in charge was so informative, and interesting. she took the time to explain all about the growth of the lobster, and the conservation that is being done. definitely fell it was money well spent.

Great little exhibit. Although it could be described as 'niche', even if you aren't that interested in lobsters when you walk in, you will have learnt something by time you walk out! There's a nice balance of general interest, ecology and science to keep all entertained, and the live exhibits are more than enough to fascinate a (2year old in... More

I work as a fishmonger/butcher (butchmonger) and have to handle the lobsters there. Never eaten them and used to be scared to go near them but now I love them! So saw this place in a sightseeing flyer and just had to. Very small but oh so worth it! The big lobsters are stunning and the lil ones are too... More

Its great to hear that you enjoyed your visit. As you say our visitor centre is not huge but we do pack a lot in. The £3 you paid to adopt a baby lobster will help us to raise and release a baby lobster a baby lobster into the ocean. We will do our very best to ensure that "Clawdio"... More

I'm my goodness I had never heard of such a place and was so glad I discovered it. To see a baby lobster only a day old was amazing. The care taken with them was wonderful. The ideal present for any one of any age is to adopt a lobster or even 2. It isn't expensive £3 and you get... More

Worth the £3.75 gift aided entry fee per adult. We hadn't realised the time it takes to grow a lobster to eating size and this attraction gives you much more respect for your food. Very informative - it only takes about 30 mins to get through if it's quiet.

A small and lovely Lobster Hatchery. People who work there are very passionate about what they are doing. The lady at the entrance is very friendly and gave us you a lot of extra information about the lobster. Off course you can read a lot of information and see very young lobster and oldies in the Hatchery itself :) What... More

Informative and interesting- aimed at families with children but we enjoyed it- 7 adults- and we adopted 7 lobsters- can't wait to hear when they are released!
