This is one of those things you do because it's an interesting experience, historically and culturally, if slightly whiffy. A charming, wooden, dark green funicular carriage takes a short trip up and down powered by city waste water (hence the potential for the whiffy-ness). The...More

I took the funiculaire from the lower to the upper city. It is included with the Swiss Pass. It was a short but interesting way to ascend to the upper city. The operator was pleasant.

An impressive funiculaire, a 100 years old and 100% ecologic. Uses waste-water as driving power. A genius stroke of engineering.

This is a great way to see over tops of the houses down into the old town. Bringing you to a great spot to explore the picturesque old town of Fribourg

Worth using from its lower side as it's quite a steep climb back up the streets above. Just be warned though that it's powered by the use of "dirty" water and can be a bit whiffy.

Nice. When you take your ticket, know that this is the SAME ticket for the buses in the city of Fribourg. It is valid not just to take the funiculaire, but you can use it for up to one hour on the buses.

Not cheap for a short ride but it was certainly worth it in the heat and the thought of climbing back up the hill made it an easy choice for us! The staff were very friendly. You can sit outside facing up the hill of...More

From the centre to the Old/Low Town ("Basse-Ville). No Luxury, but nevertheless a seldom and exceptional experience (considering the railcar is drawn by pumping the urban waters). The Funiculaire is duly serviced and restored to remain a functional historic tourist attraction. Enjoy the scenary. As...More
