We're at a wedding in the village and this was our second visit but still love the location and surroundings. Good local bars and walks round the Laguna

It was lovely to see the flamingos but they are quite a distance away so bring binoculars, there are a few viewing stations behind centre , We drove around the lake but difficult to see the flamingos, beautiful rural scenery

Just a relatively short drive north from the A384 and very close to the A92, the nature reserve at the lagoon, Laguna De Fuente De Piedra, populated by several thousand pink flamingos is well worth breaking your journey for if you are passing by. The birds were in residence when we called in June. There are two principal lakes: the smaller one has a hide that enables you to get closer to a smaller number of these elegant birds as they feed in the shallow waters. There is an excellent interpretation centre, the Visitor Center José Antonio Valverde.

We visited after the Donkey Sanctuary. Just 3km apart & easy access & huge carpark which was empty. Motorhomes not allowed overnight. Directed to furthest Hide and brilliant view of Flamingoes, Black-winged Stilts, Black headed gulls, egrets, Little Grebes, Terns, various ducks, etc. We stayed for hours. Free but in VIC all in Spanish & you have to pay for audio-aid in English. May wel return.

If you are there you have to try that lake. On the big lake there are hundreds of bird (incl. flamingos) but they are so far away. If you are lucky next to the road on the small lake you can find a small population. The long tour around the lake is a bit hard, 'couse there is not even a small shady place.
