The lake, the birds, the fauna and flora are all excellent, obviously ! the way its maintained too, BUT the visitors center, has not even got a bottle of water for sale , let alone a coffee, seriously, an automated coffee and drinks machine could help with funds for the maintenance? or even a " snack machine" ?? Visitors can walk for many, many miles all around this huge lake and in the heat of Andalucia, people WILL run out of cold water, or have hungry children. Not everyone is prepared to bring drinks and food which you need to leave in a very hot car. Surely this kind of service would be bringing more people for longer periods of time and MAKE MORE MONEY for a very good cause ? (it is also not equipped for pic-nics)

Our guide Marta (we called through the number on their website) went above and beyond to give us a guided tour the next day. She did not speak English but through Google translate we planned our visit and had a fantastic tour. Our son really enjoyed it - especially the telescopes. Really interesting, enjoyable and worth the money (8 Euro per person).

We're at a wedding in the village and this was our second visit but still love the location and surroundings. Good local bars and walks round the Laguna

It was lovely to see the flamingos but they are quite a distance away so bring binoculars, there are a few viewing stations behind centre , We drove around the lake but difficult to see the flamingos, beautiful rural scenery

Just a relatively short drive north from the A384 and very close to the A92, the nature reserve at the lagoon, Laguna De Fuente De Piedra, populated by several thousand pink flamingos is well worth breaking your journey for if you are passing by. The birds were in residence when we called in June. There are two principal lakes: the smaller one has a hide that enables you to get closer to a smaller number of these elegant birds as they feed in the shallow waters. There is an excellent interpretation centre, the Visitor Center José Antonio Valverde.

We visited after the Donkey Sanctuary. Just 3km apart & easy access & huge carpark which was empty. Motorhomes not allowed overnight. Directed to furthest Hide and brilliant view of Flamingoes, Black-winged Stilts, Black headed gulls, egrets, Little Grebes, Terns, various ducks, etc.
We stayed for hours. Free but in VIC all in Spanish & you have to pay for audio-aid in English.
May wel return.

If you are there you have to try that lake. On the big lake there are hundreds of bird (incl. flamingos) but they are so far away. If you are lucky next to the road on the small lake you can find a small population. The long tour around the lake is a bit hard, 'couse there is not even a small shady place.

Lovely place for a country walk, come rain or shine. We have visited at various times of the year but yet to catch the Flamingo in peak breeding season. One year we caught sight of flamingo in early season before nesting and later in the year when there were a few stragglers remaining. The visitor centre is very informative and staff very friendly. Some good "hides" for birdwatching over the water too.

This large lake harbours many bird species, among which flamingos. There is a visitor center and some trails, from which you can spot birds, but you need strong binoculars. Because of the prolonged drought in Spain the lake was very low and reduced in size. Because of this the birds were very far from the trail, so it was a not so rewarding visit.

My interest in visiting the locality of Fuente de Piedra was to visit the donkey refuge on the outskirt. This is easily combined with a visit to the lagoon which is a short distance away. It provides the opportunity to give a little love to some animals, many of whom have suffered terrible privations through their working lives and then abandoned without care in old age others that have lost a loving owner through death or inability to cope in old age. This site is a wonderful place to visit and is well recommended.
