Dating from 1790 this attractive bridge is an integral part of town life and is used by thousands of people daily getting from the main shopping areas on the “church” side of the river, and the main restaurant and bar roads on the other.

It’s an attractive structure and the views of the bridge with the church behind it are splendid.

It's just an old bridge over the river, there is not much to see, but you go get nice views along the river.

This town is lovely and quite charming, worth a visit or a meal on your Duoro River tour. And the perspective from this bridge is the prettiest in town, lovely in all directions.

On the beautiful river in Amarante, stone built and very charming. Just an occasional car. Lots of opportunities for photos.

Beautiful during the day and at night. You cross the bridge and find yourself in front of the gorgeous cathedral and the historic center. Not to be missed when in Amarante.

The bridge is beautiful and well cared for, the view of the Tâmega river is also very beautiful, but in the end it's just a small bridge, but it becomes a weak attraction, in my opinion, because pedestrians and cars share the passage across the bridge without any security. The bridge's surroundings are much more attractive

We walked around the town and over this bridge. Relevant history is on others' reviews, but I thought that the bridge and the rest of the village didn't offer much to the traveling tourists. The Cathedral is closed for renovations.

The Sao Goncalo Bridge spans the Tamega River. The original bridge was built in the 13th century, but collapsed in a 1763 flood. The current granite structure was built in 1790. The bridge was the site of a battle between the Portuguese and the French forces during the 1809 Peninsula War. A plaque on the southeastern end of the bridge commemorates the battle. Just one of many sites in this attractive town.

This is a beautiful litle town with great views of the river and the surrounding areas.

The bridge is a must see and after crossing the bridge, there is an awesome cathedral.

We were also lucky to see the market, next to the cathedral, which was open on the day of our visit.

This is a great place to visit for pictures and very central to the city. You have to come to take pictures. Very historic as well as Napoleon's troops tried to take the bridge back in the early 1800s and a major battle ensued.
