I loved this small little museum of modern and contemporary art especially the wonderful Amadeo De Souza artwork! I had never heard of this artist before and so enjoyed the artwork by this fabulous artist. It’s a small museum but worth a visit while in town.

There is a good number of paintings from Amadeo de Souza cardoso and a good example of contemporary portuguese art. The building is also very interesting. Loved the visit

We stopped by the museum to see a special exhibit by a local artist (Amedeo de Sooza-Cardosa). It was very special and well worth the visit. The other art in the museum was great as well.

Rooted in the ancient monastery, it is beautifully designed to present visitors with a wide range of artworks. Both exhibits we saw were well-detailed (audio-guide available) and all the rooms were wide and well lit. Will return, for sure, when new exhibits pop up!

Interesting but not too special to make a detour for. Nice art work that offer some information about the Portuguese artist. Costs only 1€/person, situated in an old monastery. If you come with a car, be careful, because the roads are very narrow and parking spaces are scarce.

The museum is only a stones-throw from the river, in the former convent, so it is easy to find.

Born in Amarante, Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso was an artist in the early 20th century who was particularly known for his cubist paintings. He spent time living and painting in Paris, where much of his art remains. But this small museum in Amarante has a permanent collection of some of his work and the admission fee is only €1.

In addition to the work of Souza-Cardoso, the museum features other works by Portuguese artists, as well as temporary exhibits. Between 23rd June and 16th September 2018, the temporary exhibit features Surrealism in Portugal. It is a small museum but has some interesting pieces on display. Unfortunately, as we reached the display of Souza-Cardoso’s work, a staff member informed me that photos are not permitted!

Certainly worth a visit.

It's really interesting to visit the art of another country. The most exciting find was the photography of Eduardo da Costa Teixeira Pinto. I wish his work was more accessible. It's a wonderful building and cool relief on a hot day.

This is an excellent example of what can be achieved in a provincial town where an old Dominican convent has been well converted to an art gallery. This gallery exhibits work by artists who were born in the area as well as other temporary exhibitions. The art is of a high standard and the gallery is well worth a visit.

An amazing modern art gallery with some historical exhibits as well. Outshone many larger galleries that we have visited and entry for one euro is a steal. The exhibition of Mario Vitoria's artworks was exceptional.
