It's really interesting to visit the art of another country. The most exciting find was the photography of Eduardo da Costa Teixeira Pinto. I wish his work was more accessible. It's a wonderful building and cool relief on a hot day.

This is an excellent example of what can be achieved in a provincial town where an old Dominican convent has been well converted to an art gallery. This gallery exhibits work by artists who were born in the area as well as other temporary exhibitions. The art is of a high standard and the gallery is well worth a visit.

An amazing modern art gallery with some historical exhibits as well. Outshone many larger galleries that we have visited and entry for one euro is a steal. The exhibition of Mario Vitoria's artworks was exceptional.

This is a fabulous modern art museum, in a lovely setting. 1 euro entry fee, into a wonderful courtyard setting. The temporary exhibition was very modern, and the perminant one, showing exhibition of cubist art and modern art upti 2013. Definitely worth a visit

This is a great little visit in Amarante. We were lucky to have a friend book us a private tour with Theresa (sp?). She was wonderful and pointed out pieces in the collection with particularly important stories/histories.

Nice museum in older part of the village with contemporary art. Especially the first floor shows you a large range of works in different styles.

Amadeo de Souza Cardoso was the most prominent portuguese painter of his generation. His artistic production is unbelievable considering that he dies at 31. During his stay in Paris he related with Modigliani, Delauny and other modernist. The museum beyond amazing Amadeo works have yet many contemporary works of great portuguese artists . It’s located in the beautiful monastery of... More

NOTE: You can find this musuem in the city of Amarante about 60 Km from Porto city. Amarante is a city with a impressive etnografic and historic background but it is also a... More

This is quite a large Museum, really more an art gallery specialising in temporary exhibitions of Contemporary art and a large permanent collection of Portuguese art from 1860 to present day. Not to everyone's taste but at only 1 euro to get in, would repay an hour of your time.

A beautiful building being a former monastry. Extensive collection but probably not appealing to all. A real bargain at only one euro.
