It was rainy (of course), but this was a great little place to stop and visit. We didn't have too many expectations, but we'd definitely recommend it if you are in the area. Do the full tour.

We were driving by and saw this amazing site and are we glad we stopped! It was used in filming a few movies (like Braveheart) as well. Almost no one there (parking lot has a bar that prohibits tour buses) and it's free.

When staying in Navan, we love to stop by the abbey. It is quite impressive and well kept and hardly anyone, other than us, is ever there. Very easy to find, just off the Navan-Trim road.

If you sit for a few minutes on a wall and close your eyes you can hear and feel the monks walking through the shell of this building, living their lives of quiet contemplation. Magic.
