Laugarvatn Fontana is composed of a series of interconnected baths and steam rooms that complement each other to create a healthy, natural and unique spa experience.Three steam rooms, collectively called GUFAN, have been built over a natural hot spring that has been used since 1929. The temperature of the steam varies depending on the temperature of the hot spring and weather, usually between 40°C (104°F) and 50°C (122°F). Humidity is very high in the steam room cabins. Grids in the floor of the steam rooms allow guests to hear and smell the boiling natural hot spring underneath, creating a natural and totally unique experience.Next to the steam room is YLUR, a Finnish-style sauna. The temperature is between 80°C (176°F) and 90°C (194°F), with a lower humidity than the steam room having a big window facing the lake of Laugarvatn. LAUGA, SÆLA, and VISKA are interconnected outdoor mineral baths that vary in depth, size and temperature. Some areas are suitable for relaxation and others offer space for movement and playfull moments. Stone artwork made by Icelandic artist, Erla Thórarinsdóttir, enhance each visitor’s experience. VISKA, the hot tub, is built at a slightly higher level than the other baths, providing a panoramic view of the beautiful surroundings while the healthy water nourishes both body and soul.Completing the ensemble are VATNIÐ and STRÖNDIN — the lake and the beach. Visitors will reach VATNIÐ through a gate. STRÖNDIN has warm black sand, which has been shown to be beneficial for those suffering from arthritis and other joint illnesses. VATNIÐ provides an opportunity to cool down between visits to GUFAN and YLUR, a temperature shift that is both healthy and strengthening

Nice hot springs

We avoided the Blue Lagoon, but went to Fontana on a recommendation from a friend. It was very nice with gorgeous view of the lake. Really enjoyed the experience.

Really neat hot springs. We were there on a windy day, and the sauna doors kept blowing open and letting the heat out. The pools themselves were cool but a bit small and limited. All and all, though, a great stop.

Yes it blows the Blue lagoon out of the water. The view was incredible, you are soaking in the tub right next to the lake. the water was so relaxing, temperatures vary from pool to pool. But if you are cold water as much as I do go all the way to the end that's where the hotness is. There... More

Enjoyed Laugarvatn Fontana but it was really just a naturally heated pool. Gorgeous views of the beautiful Lake with clean rooms and friendly staff. Be careful of your belongings...we had a students camera stolen after she dropped it in the changing room.

Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Amazing views. Even better than blue lagoon i would say. Hot pools, sauna and quick swim in lake was excellent.

Very nice and clean facilities. Multiple Pools. Spas and saunas. I thought the food was excellent. The use of an actual lake has a cold Plunge. I left a wad of cash in the terry cloth robe. They tracked it down and returned it to me. That would not have happened in the US.

After 30 min in here I started feeling a bit weird, maybe I was coming down with something, then I realised I was just stress-free, relaxed shoulders, zero aches. Magic! It is an amazing setting, the staff super friendly and quite empty, not sure if it feels different when packed with people. The scenery is breathtaking, it makes you realise... More

I visited here with a group of friends as we had left it late to book a decent slot at the famed Blue Lagoon. Various websites balance the merits of the two spas and though this is certainly more intimate than the Blue Lagoon, cheaper and less busy..it is not nearly as impressive despite the website perhaps making it look... This thermal bath is on the Golden Circle. Nicely designed, it has multiple pools at various clearly indicated temperatures. Some of the pools are too shallow for immersion up to the neck, which we required on a day where the air temperature was around the freezing mark. There is access for a dip in the lake if you are feeling... More

Beautiful natural hot springs next to an unheated ( freezing cold) lake. Pools are about as hot as a bath. The steam room is basically a wooden hut with slats placed above a natural stream which happens to be boiling. The steam rising up through the floor slats creates an amazing experience. hearing the boiling water running below the floor... More
