We were running out of time and had to decide between Hverir and Krafla which are almost facing each other with Krafla being 7 kms off route 1. This place is full of lava flows which have obviously solidified with lots of geothermal activity and...More

We drive by the massive remain of the volcano and I could only imagine what the active eruption was like I'm sure it was terrifying. A good historical visit.

The power plant is just stunning. All the pipes an the steam seem from another world. Drive past the plant for some great views and hikes.

One of our favorite activities around Myvatn. The lava is still steaming in places, and you can walk all around it on paths, including right up to the cinder cone. Most people only walk up to the wooden viewing point near the rhyolite hill; the...More

What an incredible place to visit. Have never seen anything like the volcano and lava fields that we saw. The hike to the volcano wasn't bad, but be sure to have your wind gear, as the winds here can be very strong and can also...More

It's amazing to see the lava formations! It becomes this in-hospitable landscape. Great photo op. There's an eerie beauty to lava. Don't miss the crater Viti--pale blue water inside. If you have time, walk around.

Some farmers are taking advantage of the lava rocks to build fences for the animals. It's really amazing to see how much lava there is and it makes you more aware of the damage a volcano can do.
