Great place. Great view. Great history. You must walk up many stairs but the place is stunning. Worth visiting.

The gift shops have the homy pics, assorted doo dads, mastic in packets and run a brisk trade. The nuns and monks seem terse, unwelcoming and unhappy with the invasion of... More

Work of genius! You look at all the 6 and the same question keeps coming to mind. How? Why? What it must have taken at that time, without machine power. This one is at the farthest end at highest elevation. from here you can look at 4 other monastery as you could do from close to Stefenos Monastery, which is... More

If you can only visit one of the monasteries this is the one. A great experience. There is a lot to see with some amazing 15th century texts.

If you are visiting Greece then definitely put this on your bucket list. The monasteries in Meteora are really beautiful and very unique since they are perched up on these rock formations. We booked our tour through Viator (tour operator CHAT tours) for a 2 day trip which also included Delphi. We visited the great monastery and St. Stephens. I... More

The monastery Megalo Meteora is the biggest of all the 5 monasteries in Meteora. Amazing the frescoes from XIV century of italian influence in the chatolikon (the church), the cellar, still furnished with ancient tools and the icons museum guarded in the ancient church. The Monastery is provided with a nice souvenirs shop. Entrance fee is 3€...as much as a... More

Quite a bit more crowded and quite a few more steps to climb than the nearby Varlaam but well worth it as there is so much more to see at this Grand Meteora Monastery. The gorgeous views, the mysterious vibes and ambiance are beyond describable by mere mortal words.
