This is a beautiful nature walk. My recommendation is to walk from Zachlorou station (reachable by train or car) to Niamata station (2 stops - around 8km). Plan 1.5-2 hrs depending on your walking rhythm and plan in synchronization with the train schedule - to make sure you do catch the train back but also to make sure you are standing in a safe place when a train crosses your way (which will not happen more than once - since their frequency is low). Also critical is to purchase the train tickets in advance as there are no facilities at all in Niamata station and the train might be full (there is no free sitting or standing). The descent is very mild and at least in my view (but in contrary to previous reviews) even those afraid of heights will have no problems in doing it. The main obstacle is that many parts of the walk have to be on the train tracks - which is not that comfortable. Bring good shoes.

This mighty, precipitous gorge offers stunning scenery. Either by road climbing the mountain side or by rack railway winding through lush valleys and through tunnels cutting through the steep rock faces. Stop for lunch half way at the tavern at Zachlorou train station sheltered by spectacular old trees. Maybe even walk the rest of the way to Kalavryta along the rail track - thousands do it.

We saw the gorge from the train. It was simply beautiful. We noticed a few hikers walking the gorge. Glad we were on the train as the trek did not look easy and it was long. Highly recommend seeing the Gorge while in Greece. A must see!

Compared to other things seemed a little expensive but I have not seen anything else like it. We drove as far as the Moni Megalo Spilano and took the train to Kalavrita. Worth doing both. Take some time at the top - I would avoid the tourist drag. Staff on the train and at the stations were wonderful.

We hiked all the way down from Kalavrita to Diakopto, hey the swim in the sea, relaxed and had coffee and then we took the train all the way up. It's a great hike, almost nobody else hiking despite the high season.

Outstanding natural beauty, which we all deserve to enjoy. The gorge is 20 kilometers long and is located on the slopes of Mount Helmos. Lush greenery, steep slopes and a difficult course, which we had done before when we were younger. This time we took Odontotos and admired the route from Diakopto to Kalavryta through the wagon. Nice and so...

you have two options to see the gorge. the first with Odontotos rested and the second with hiking, difficult, particularly demanding and time-consuming.
