A well guided tour and very interesting. Done in german but headsets available in English. Follow the small signs along the way, after parking be prepared to hike 15 minuets on a paved path through the woods before coming upon the gift shop/ information stand....More

If u visit Idar-Oberstein it’s a must see Idar Oberstein is a v small town but v well known for its Gem industry Stien kaulenberg is a exhausted mine which gives u an insight of how mining was done It’s quite interesting Must a visit

Sorry but I do not know of any such area. One might be able to enquire through the Idar-Oberstein web site if any mining sites exist.
