This small town is quiet, with a few sweet shops and places to visit, but other towns offer more to see.

This church sits at the Center of the small village. Very charming.
We were impressed with the degree of decoration.

The church is a short walk up from the pier and on the side of the path were numerous local people selling their locally made textiles etc.

The church was open and there were a few people rehearsing for the serviceWe looked round the small church which has an ornate altar. There was a dias/ platform in the church of Christ and the cross which I was told is carried round the village at Easter..

A must see especially around Easter! Good local architecture and culture. You get a feeling of how people value religion and their church community.

We have visited Santa Catarina a number of times including twice for Holy Week. This is not one of those hot areas on the Tourist maps for Lake Atitlan. It is worth the visit, friendly people great weavers, true weaving's not like one might find on the streets of Pana.

Beautiful, typical church. Beautiful people who welcomed us, despite the fact that we were clearly not dressed up as much as they were.

Santa Catarina Palopo was the first village we docked at during our boat tour of Lake Atitlan. It is about fifteen minutes from the pier in Panajachel to Santa Catarina. It's a much slower pace in Santa Catarina.

We walked up to the church to check out the town. The church was open but the only person in there near noon was the bell ringer, who stepped out to ring the bells at 12:00 o'clock. We casually looked around the small plaza and took our time as we strolled back down to the dock for the rest of our boat tour. The church is simple with a more ornate altar. It is the most identifiable building that you see as you approach Santa Catarina Palopo. It was a relaxing visit.

The church itself is very simple and worth a ten minute visit. The town of Santa Caterina is a fifteen minute boat ride from Panajachel but couldn't be more different. Whereas Panajachel is brimming with tourist shops, restaurants and gringos, Santa Catarina is quiet and calm. Though there is not much to do there it is worth the short ride just to enjoy the quiet and the views.

Quaint church in quaint town -- very clean town a short (15 min) boat ride from Panajachel. The church anchors the town - it is well kept, very traditional Spanish style. People are very humble and friendly and proud of their town. Tourists come and go, but the local people welcome them always with open arms.
