Georginas is a beautiful hot spring facility surrounded by lush tropical plants up in the mountains above Quezaltenango Guatemala. Unfortunately when we were there they were repairing the facility and only the large pool of 3 was open. The poolside restaurant was also closed which was a disappointment. It has been over a year in reconstruction and we were told should be open again in a few months. Not sure.

Is stayed in Xela for 3 weeks to attend a Spanish immersion program. During this time one of my school activities was Fuents Georginas. I have had several hot spring experiences around the world and this experience was incredible. I enjoyed it so much I decided to go back once more before I left. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The first time we arrived about 3:30 in the afternoon. The facility closes at 6:00 so by the time I arrived, there were not may people (less than 15). I paid the general admission and enjoyed the large pool with other people with their music playing in the background. The water was warm/tepid however the farther back you went, the warmer the water was as the hotter water fed through the rock near he back of the main big pool.

The second time I decided to pay a little bit more for the more private pool located down 280 stairs near a small creek. This experience was incredible as there were 5 smaller pools and on one other person was there. There was no music, only the sound of the small stream. The water temperature in the highest pool was almost too hot so I chose the second pool. The other two pools were increasingly cooler so it's perfect to find the temperature you resonate with. Also the more private experience offered individual dressing rooms instead of one large one.

Both experiences were great but I strongly recommend paying a bit more for the more natural experience. Oh one more thing to mention is there is absolutely no volcanic sulfur odor.

If you are going too use Uber be sure to secure a ride home before being dropped off. Cell service is terrible and I talked to several people who ad to hitchhike back.

Went on a Saturday and paid the extra Q25 to go to the private pools. They were wonderful and so beautiful. We got there at about 11:00am and we were the only ones there at first. An hour and a half later, there were still only 8 other people. The public pools at the top were a bit more busy but still not horrible. The downfall of the public pools is that you take 260 steps down to them and then you have to climb back up. Take a walking pole as there are no railings. We did not eat at the restaurant but it smelled amazing. We are interested in going back and staying in one of their cabañas.

The water was perfect. They had different levels of heat in each pool depending on how close you were to where the spring feeds the pools.

Beautiful clear water pools! We arrived at 9.30 on a Tuesday, so we had the place to ourselves for the first hour, then the crowds started to turn up! Apparently weekends are really crowded! Surrounded by beautiful mountains, whilst the sun beat down on us. Lovely snacks and drinks available. Incredible how hard the indigenous people work on the steep hills growing every fruit and vegetable you can imagine!

We went as a family group of 22 and it was amazing, even during crowded Xmas week. Little kids and adults of all ages enjoyed the unique and beautiful views and the waters were soothing. Looking up the side of the mountain from the emrald water was an awesome experience. We also enjoyed the lunch in the restaurant. Everything was clean and felt so spiritual (and fun).

My daughter and I had quite a time getting to Fuentes Georginas. We rode the chicken bus from Xela, took a taxi to the foot of the hill that would take us to the hot springs. But the road was closed. We hiked about half a mile, then rode in the back of a truck passing many farms on steep hills the final miles to our destination. It was worth it. My daughter had kept this place a surprise. We stayed in one of the cabins which I felt were plush. Two king size beds with a floor to ceiling rock fireplace in the bedroom. Dining table, bathroom, our own hot tub (unfortunately the plumbing wasn't working that day) a courtyard, picnic table and view over the creek that runs below. We were two of only four people who stayed in the cabins that night. We swam in one of the pools in the evening and saw fireflies and bats. The next morning we climbed down the many steps to the pool near the creek which was private and surrounded by beautiful greenery. There is a restaurant and the food is good. Be warned that the major warmest hot springs is closed around 5 p.m. and flushed out. It is not available in the evening.

It's very cool in Quetzaltenango, so take a good jacket. Also wear good tennis shoes, hiking shoes or good water shoes to go back and forth. It cracked me up to peek into the shop, as they sell thick, warm hats, as well as bathing suits and towels!
We went on a Saturday. On the website, it says that it opens at 9:00am, but we got there at 8:45, and people were already in the pools.
They have lockers, but you have to pay for them, even if you bring your own lock. They're big, and we put all 6 bags and shoes.
It cost Q30 ($4-ish) for the Guatemalan citizens, but Q60 ($8-ish) for foreigners. That's for the main pools. The really quiet and hotter pools are down a ways. It's not wheelchair accessible, and you need to have good shoes - lots of oddball, slippery steps. It costs Q25 more to go to the lower pools, and it's well worth it!! It's absolutely beautiful and quiet. They are warm, very warm and hot, where as the main pools aren't as warm or hot.
We left at about 12:30, and the main pools were very crowded. The showers and changing rooms were packed.

Entrance fee for foreigners is Q60! Twice more than local visitors!
Infrastructure is old and in poor shape. We didn’t stay in the cabins and wouldn’t have!
The changing room (men’s) is filthy, smelly (urine) and has no light.
The water is lukewarm and some particules are floating in there.
Won’t come back and won’t recommend this hot springs!

Travelling up high in an open truck. It is not high quallity tourism, but nice and simple - for locals and tourists.
