If you've come to Yuma for a little R and R from colder climates, you might want to spend a good half day here. This section of the wetlands along the Colorado is Yuma's recreational centerpiece. It's still being developed but you'll find a fishing pond, plenty of beach space, play areas for children and river entry spots. The hike and bike track also passes through here and will connect you with the city historical area as well as the more natural east wetlands area. There's also a more botanical area with nature trails and information plaques. You'll find lots of walkers and cyclists, dog walkers, and a smattering of kayakers and fishers. Just remember, as you move into later Spring and, especially summer, it will be awfully hot here. So be careful.

This park is well-maintained and felt safe. A lovely place to see and photograph wildlife and desert plants, along the Colorado River bank. Plenty of shady spots for relief from Yuma’s sun. We saw rabbits, ground squirrels, lizards, and quail. I grew up in Yuma before this park existed, and was thrilled to experience it while visiting decades after I moved to the east coast. Thank you, City of Yuma, for proving a nice place for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Although you can have a great walk along the Colorado river, the park is mainly indended to be visited by families with children as there are some playgrounds. We made the walk for birding and came across some burned area’s. On burned soil new growth will appear soon. There is a ramp to get your boat into the river. All in all a nice place to have a nice walk.

My husband and I were delighted to find this beautiful park while staying in Yuma. The park is large, with extensive walking/biking trails bordering the Colorado River. Many informative interpretive signs and QRGs are scattered throughout. The stocked fishing pond is a lovely setting to while away some time birdwatching,, people watching , relaxing or picnicking. There’s also a very cool large playground for the younger set, and plenty of parking.

I’ve been here a few times and always find the park very tranquil. The walking paths are wonderful with some that are paved (around the pond) and others that are gravel (along the river). The paths along the river have educational signage about the plants and animals that live in the area. There are always birds in the pond and sometimes even pelicans who are making their way north or south. Just a peaceful place to take a stroll with the dog or have a picnic lunch.

We and about 700 other geocachers were in the park on Sunday Feb. 4. There were cachers there from many of the US states and a few from Canada. This was the 12th annual SWAG event in Yuma (South West Arizona Geocachers)

Glad they cleaned out the area so it is no longer a homeless camp. Felt safe here after dark. Mix of families and individuals enjoying the cool evening. did see something ion the parking area that looked like maybe a drug deal. Car drove in and 3 young people walked over and exchanged something with the people in the car - then the car left HUM
