Aravaipa Canyon is gorgeous. Spending a hot October day in one of Arizona’s few perennial streams was a grand escape. From the west entrance there are many cottonwood trees providing shade (summer and fall) along the river banks. We walked through clouds of yellow butterflies. As you move farther east into the canyon, the rugged cliffs ahead of you become... More

I grew up with the family that owned the Panorama Ranch at the end of the road so I am a little biased. This is an incredible find for an enthusiast that loves, nature, birds, history, American Indians, Cowboys and wild animals. The canyons are beautiful the scenery is awe inspiring. Not an easy hike and better with horses as... More

We hiked into Aravaipa from the west entrance. Even though it was over 90 degrees, the creek kept us cool. Nice treat for a hot day.

Took this hike the second week of November and it was a real treat for Arizona. The hike is in the bottom of a canyon with a year round creek. There is no established trail and you cross or hike up the creek a lot of the time so wear appropriate footwear. The canyon walls are beautiful and it is... More

I hiked from the west end in about 4 miles. Walked in water much of the time. The views were awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed hiking here and hope to go farther next time.

Be prepared to wade back and forth across the river. It never got close to our knees but definitely over the tops of our hiking boots.

Trip to Aravaipa Canyon is well worth! I did 3 day backpacking trip in October and really enjoyed the fall weather in the canyon. This is a easy water hike. You can hike through the canyon and choose one of the many campsite around. Beautiful views, lots of wildlife.

First, you must have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get there and not be a nervous driver. But the drive is alone is quite an experience. The trail was so lovely-around each bend was a different vista. We like "off-the-beaten-path and this certainly fit that description.

What a fantastic place and what fun it is to splash through the water! 11 miles of Aravaipa canyon are protected by the Bureau of Land Management, with additional lands at both entrances owned and protected by the Nature Conservancy. The big deal here in arid southern Arizona is perennial water, a rare and wonderful thing. Aravaipa Creek runs year... More

Been in AZ for years but never explored this wonderful habitat. Two of us got in on a Sunday because of a cancellation, otherwise it requires advance reservations. Came in from Aravaipa Road end, other end is Turkey Creek. Beautiful scenic river that you can hike in or there is a trail that parallels the river and crosses it frequently.... More
