Found out about this neat slice of Arizona history in a hiking book; confirmed it on the Hike Arizona web site. Camels were used to scout a trail for wagon trains in the mid 1800s; none of them have stuck around, but a drive down a few unpaved forest service roads will bring you to Laws Spring, a reliable water... We had a little trouble finding the location but kept at it, there is a map and instructions at the visitor center that will take you straight to it. There is a nice pullout and parking area when you arrive to start the walk. You will cross a little bridge and you will see it when you look up the... More

This is a great monument to visit. We took the grandkids and were out in the area scouting for elk, deer, and other critters. We stum bled upon this by accident and loved it. We took lots of photos with the kids by the monument. Very interesting.

We went on a tour with the Museum of northern Arizona in Oct of 2007. There are numerous places where remnants of the old road, originally built in the 19th century, are still visible, and tracing the road allows one to view the spectacular scenery of Northern Arizona. The fun and the enjoyment of the Beale Wagon Road in the vicinity of Williams is mostly in the challenge of finding it.
