I have been to Hacienda Baru a number of times over a 10 year period and have literally watched the recovery of the jungle throughout the very large property, and the hotel itself grow and improve year over year. During this stay the Owner showed me the new adventure cable/obstacle course through the trees. We stayed in one of the... More

Hacienda Baru is beautiful, full of friendly and knowledgeable staff, and has plentiful wildlife. It is also much less crowded than other nearby national parks. You can stay there, visit, check out their adventure facilities, gift shop, butterfly garden, and numerous trails. We went zip-lining, which included a hike in/out, telescopic views of wildlife, and a wonderful afternoon. 10/10 would... More

When we visited and stayed here this week it was lovely. Only stayed one night but managed to walk all the trails. We didn't have a guide but we saw, monkeys, tortoise, sloths, coati, snake, toucans, lizards, iguanas, large guinea pig things (can't remember the name), giant toad, squirrels and loads of other birds. We loved the quietness of the... More

We booked the rainforest experience tour and went early in the morning. Unfortunately we didn't see many animals on this tour, just one far away sleeping sloth, a few birds and some bats. The hike was not easy and had a lot of uphill. Honestly I didn't feel like it was worth the effort and I would have rathered spent... More

We started out by doing the self guided walks, which were good, with plenty of signs to explain what you could see and we did see a fair amount of wildlife, including a slot with its baby. The beach was great for walking along, but not for swimming. We then decided to do the zip wires. There were 8 zip... More

The number one excursion on my Costa Rica vacation was to go zip-lining. Hacienda Baru was excellent for our whole family which ranged in age from 11 to 72. First we began with the guided hike on the way to the stations. Our fantastic guide pointed out two and three toed sloths, a monkey, a toucan, a poison dart frog,... More

This hotel is the perfect location for a family. As a private nature reserve there is a lot of opportunity to spot wildlife around the property. The hotel is on the rustic side but very reasonably priced with quality staff (hospitality and tour guides).

We've done this zipline tour twice, once in 2016 and once in 2010. Both times the tours were just our group - 3-4 people, plus to two guides. The hike to the ziplining is a great nature tour. Monkeys, ants, sloths, etc. The slides are fun. I've been on bigger, like Monteverde, but that felt more like a factory line.... More

This is a nice flat walk for all ages. Great first day activity. We saw a sloth and other wildlife and plants.

We went twice during our stay in Dominical and had a great time. We walked the jungle path almost to the road (rainy season had the rest washed out) and we saw raccoon, coati, tamandua, sloths, capuchins, toucans, agouti, peccary, a tree frog, and a lot of mosquitoes! For some die hard animal folks, we were pretty pleased with our... More
