Boothill Graveyard was the Tombstone City Cemetery from 1878 to 1884. It was not called Boothill until the 1920s. Its occupants ran the spectrum of all the cultures and nationalities of early Tombstone. Cowboys who "died with their boots on" lie next to housewives, business men and women, miners, gamblers, ladies of the "red-light district" and all the famous and not so famous occupants that contributed to Tombstone's early history. By the 1920s, Boothill had fallen into ruin with many grave markers lost or unreadable. A group of citizens in Tombstone and Cochise County began the task of researching old burial records, consulting with relatives, older residents, and using all means available to identify the occupants and mark the graves properly. The task took several years and the efforts of many to accomplish. This resulted in the graveyard being restored much as it was in the early years when it was the city cemetery.

For anyone who loved the old cowboy movies this is a must do tour. We spent some time here looking at the graves and wondering about the life of those buried here. We wondered about the sadness in the hearts of their loved ones, certainly some moms and dads knew where there children lay, and certainly some didn't. We highly... More

I enjoyed my visit here more than the town of Tombstone itself. I walked around and read every stone. I love the way it tells how a lot of them died..."hanged", "found at the bottom of a mine", "killed by..." etc.

Our last stop was the graveyard on our way out town. Interesting but a lot of unknown plots a few recognizable. Meh it was ok.

Always wondered about this one after watching western movies about the bad guys. Very glad we went there for our last stop of the day. We walked down to the Jewish monument, just a short hike.

First stop as we entered tombstone. The admission is cheap and the history that surrounds the folks buried here is vast. Some of the grave markers have some neat sayings on them

It's quite poignant to see so many people who died in 1882. There are some graves who are quite famous.

We spent 30 min in the graveyard reading about how each marked grave was killed or died. It was an interesting piece of history

This was so interesting to see the number of persons who were unknown when buried and how many others had to have family come to the site to point them out. Don't wear sandals. Awesome experience.
