Overview
More
Boothill Graveyard was the Tombstone City Cemetery from 1878 to 1884. It was not called Boothill until the 1920s. Its occupants ran the spectrum of all the cultures and nationalities of early Tombstone. Cowboys who "died with their boots on" lie next to housewives, business men and women, miners, gamblers, ladies of the "red-light district" and all the famous and not so famous occupants that contributed to Tombstone's early history. By the 1920s, Boothill had fallen into ruin with many grave markers lost or unreadable. A group of citizens in Tombstone and Cochise County began the task of researching old burial records, consulting with relatives, older residents, and using all means available to identify the occupants and mark the graves properly. The task took several years and the efforts of many to accomplish. This resulted in the graveyard being restored much as it was in the early years when it was the city cemetery.

the graveyard has headstones, and appears to be quite authentic. However, the cost to walk thru a graveyard to look at piles of rocks, quite outweighs the experience. However, you are in Tombstone, so just do it, and take it all in.

You have a map for the self guided tour with details of a lot of the graves. It hits home how tough the life was in the Wild West

This was the best part of the trip. Very interesting to walk around and read the tombstones. An information booklet is handed out that covers all of the residents in the graveyard.

Only $3.00 to get in and gravesites well marked. It's fun to see the infamous graveyard and doesn't take much time to stroll through. If you're in Tombstone anyway, why not make this visit?

Kinda macabre to visit a graveyard but it is remarkable. Old graves filled in with rocks and tombstones of wood. Most people lying here were murdered and so a place of great unrest, although in the bright sun and immense heat you don’t feel it....More

Very interesting place to visit which ended our stay at Tombstone. The little booklet was very useful with good information on some of the tombstones that were there. Worth every penny.

Most of the grave markers have been "restored". I think there is only one original headstone there. That said it was interesting to have a look around. Only $3 and the give you a pamphlet telling you who is where. We did the tour in...More

Boot Hill is more of a tourist site although it is on the original site. Take a photo from out side the gate, hit the gift shop and skip the admission.
