Such a surprisingly cute little lake. You take a short drive down a dirt road. The path to the lake is nice and paved. There is a fork in the path. We went down the path to the right and you come to a bench and a nice sitting area. There are tons of waterfowl. It is so nice to sit and bird watch. Then we took the other path and it led to a little shelter that you can stand and watch the birds. There is information on the walls that tells you all about the lake and the birds. It was a really cool surprise. We were just expecting a lake. It's a bird watching lake. Even if you don't bird watch for a hobby, this place is cool. There are so many birds that you can't miss them!

This is an interesting place on several levels; it is a lake that was created using recycled wastewater by the city of Show Low. The lake is accessible and free to visit, it includes paved (accessible) trails to an observation deck at the lake as well as a blind for viewing the birds and other wildlife. It is an extremely quiet and restful place to go and relax and enjoy a beautiful day by the lake.

Paved sidewalk leads to a hide and a viewing platform and the ponds were full,of ducks. Pleasant location in a juniper forest.
Fabulous place for all bird watchers and anyone else interested in water birds.

I stop here a lot on my way to and from Show Low. It's quiet, uncrowded and not trashed too badly. Lots of birds and other critters. It's a good place to see migratory waterfowl.

This wetland known as the Allen Severson Wildlife Area was created by wastewater management using treated affluent. The marshes help treat and purify the water, and attract birds and wildlife to a scenic landscape. It's located on the east side of AZ77/Penrod Road about 3.5 miles north of Deuce of Clubs. A well-graded gravel road leads in about 1/2 mile to a parking area. Admission is free. A wide, level paved trail (sidewalk really) leads to a viewing deck and a blind where one can watch the waterfowl. The entire round-trip distance is only about .6 mile, and there are educational signs and benches for resting. Wheelchair access is excellent. The only restroom is a portable toilet. Binoculars and zoom lens will be useful. There isn't a lot of shade, so plan accordingly.

Small walk to a covered lookout station. The station has descriptions of the birds you are likely to see. Always seems to be ducks on the pond. Good road and parking.
