About
Crescent Moon sits beneath the towering Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed scenes in the Southwest. This day use area group shelter (also known as Ramada) is as popular as it is beautiful. Visitors will marvel at the reflection of the red cliffs in the waters of Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing.

    Beautiful place!
This is a really pretty park with picnic tables. There are some pretty hiking trails, but nothing is marked. We paid $12 for a day pass (!!), and we asked for a map or a pamphlet. What we were given was a small slip of paper, about 3 x 4, with short descriptions of what's there. Again, not great directions. We did find the vortex by the flat red rocks, and we found Buddha Beach (gorgeous spot with all the leaves turning). We met other people on the trails and everyone was in the same confused fix.

An experience I’ll wonder about for the rest of my life…
I was hiking at Crescent Moon Ranch with my husband in March of 2018. (Not given the option above for the correct year) I was 67 then. We stayed close by and walked into the park, paying a small fee. Crescent Moon is a beautiful place with Oak Creek flowing through. I gave this review 5 stars due to the mystical nature of my experience, but I was injured here. After walking across the big flat rock at the base of Cathedral Rock, we walked on the trail a bit further and stopped to watch the creek with mountain bikers on the other side. We were about 6’ front the water with hiking poles planted in front of us. Suddenly I was thrown up and back by an invisible force. My head hit a granite rock, and I did a somersault with my hiking poles in my hands with my feet landing in Oak Creek. It was like being hit by lightning… I was stunned! I was able to walk back slowly to our cabin. At the ER in Sedona, i learned I had a concussion. For anyone who thinks vortexes are not real, think again. I’m a music educator. It took me 2 months to recover. I’ll wonder about this for the rest of my life. I didn’t slip and was standing perfectly still when this occurred. We returned a couple years later so I could confront my fear. I stood in the same place and nothing happened. Sedona is a beautiful place but the energy there can be off the charts, at least on that day, in that moment, like Old Faithful at Yellowstone, only invisible.

Nice alternative to highly commercialized tourism culture
Amazing view, and at $12/car, very reasonably priced. Recommended by a volunteer from the Western Heritage Center in Prescott, after we told him we wanted to go to Sedona. We just went for a short walk to see the iconic Cathedral Rock from a distance, but many other people had brought picnic lunches. Lots of tables, and lots of room on the rocks. Pretty easy walking; not accessible, but also not very challenging. (The family ahead of us had no trouble with 3 small girls, one in a stroller.)

Less Crowd, More Peace and Quiet
This was our 1st time to visit Crescent Moon and it did not disappoint. We came here for picnic lunch beside Oak Creek and what a relaxing afternoon it was indeed. The place is not as crowded and if you hike further in, you'll get an awesome view of Cathedral Rock! The best part of our afternoon was finding a quiet spot beside the creek and enjoying the peaceful moment.

    Visiting from oregon
Amazing views with great place to relax and swim! Visiting from oregon exploring Sedona I was so taken back by the swimming areas like this one that Sedona has. We spent four hours here swimming and hanging out, some shallow areas as well as a deeper spot to jump in at. Lots of space shaded as well! There's a vortex nearby as well you can hike to!

Horrible experience,
Tim the guy in the entrance was racist with me and my family.
I don’t understand how this very touristic place in Sedona have this type of people working there.

He only let white people in, never had such an unpleasant experience. On top of my mom's birthday.

The guy wouldn't let in visitors of color or Latinos, he made us go around without giving us a pass to the parking lot.
It was an horrible experience, we decided to leave the place because the man just said you should keep going around, sorry. When we argued that we were there before many of the vehicles that he let pass in front of us.

This was our least favourite stop in our week-long vacation, so I cannot recommend it. There are no maps, no marked trails, and we were given a tiny piece of paper with some weird information that is hard to put into context while there. None of us got cell service down there- so we couldn’t look up possible trail maps, or the roads back to Sedona afterward. Many of the established trails actually lead to a dead end, or to a barbed fence, so we kept having to backtrack. Picture a forest full of confused tourists bumping into one another and asking if the trail they were on is a dead end or not. We never got to see a good view of Cathedral Rock (which was why we went), because the creek was running fast and cold, and we weren’t willing you take off our shoes and pants to try to get over the water- I didn’t see anyone attempt that while we were there. I see how that would be easier in the summer though. And getting over the water is the only way apparently to get a good view.
It is $12 per vehicle to get into the gate, and they do NOT accept the Red Rock day pass (only the annual pass). We felt ripped off.

We parked and walked down the path at the far end of the parking lot to Buddha Beach. The first swimming area we found was too crowded for our distancing taste, but we found a great place further down off the smooth red rocks. What a view, and crystal clear water.

This site has beautiful views, a peaceful atmosphere, is serene and quiet and was not at all crowded in early November. You can walk as much as you wish on lightly wooded trails, across rocks, and along the riverbank. Swimming is available in warmer weather. We are not experienced hikers and had no trouble whatsoever with a three mile hike across various types of terrain. We visited the area as part of the One Tribe vortex tour (just the two of us with our amazing guide) and it was a perfect place to experience the healing power of nature.

This is one of the prettiest places you’ll visit in Sedona, along with West Fork Trail. There’s a beautiful stream, and green foliage along the stream to complement the red rocks in the background. We’d hoped to cross the stream at Red Rock Crossing and continue on to Cathedral Rock, but the water was too high in early April. We saw other groups consider and give up crossing as well; it’s probably easier to cross in the summer. Keep in mind that if you want good pictures of Cathedral Rock you’re better off coming here in the afternoon rather than in the morning. Also, it’s $11 per car to enter, and they do have restrooms.

The 3 mile round trip walk was well worth the trouble as there was no parking inside the park. We walked past the main pool up river and found a nice spot in the shade right next to the rivers edge. Be careful as the algae on the rocks is slippery, I saw many people take serious falls, glad nobody was hurt. A definite must go while in Sedona, just get there early during the summer weekends.

Crescent Moon Picnic Site was very busy when we visited but we were able to create our own adventure. A short hike from the site revealed a rocky stream where throngs of people were dipping their feet in the water. There are some decent rock views too.
