Good time at the Hilton Garden Inn
We went to Scottsdale to begin a seven day Gate1 tour of the Grand Canyon and National Parks in Southwestern Utah. We stayed at Hilton Garden Inn in Old Town. Nice hotel. right in Old Town. We just spent some time in the afternoon in the pool. Then in the evening we walked across the street to Old Town for dinner.

Our Rental was near Old Town & we were hoping this would be a walkable area in the evenings for Restaurants, things to do etc... Most of the time we drove to our Restaurant in the evening & walked around from there. We found Old Town to be very spread out and not as walkable as we thought. By the time we got to Old Town area around Dinner time, most if not all the local shops were closed. Unless you were having Dinner or a night out drinking, there wasn't much else to do in the evenings. There is a huge variety of Restaurants and bars. We did make reservations both nights for Dinner. We did find a fabulous Donut shop 1 morning on our way out. Overall we wouldn't stay in this area again if we returned.

    Amazing Charm
My wife and I had some time to kill between checking out of our hotel and getting to the airport so decided to check out Old Town Scottsdale. We got there fairly early so parking was pretty easy in front of the shops but it did appear to be a little harder when we were leaving to find a spot. The area is extremely walkable and had a cool old school charm about it. There were definitely some kitchy tourist shops, but it had some really neat shops there as well. We did pass a couple of cool looking saloons but it was a bit early to be drinking but will probably be back to check them out. Overall it was a bit warm outside but there was plenty of shade and the shops all offered air conditioning. It was a neat area to walk around, shop and kill some time.

We enjoyed walking around Old Town Scottsdale.
We enjoyed walking around Old Town Scottsdale and we found a quaint Mexican restaurant that had delicious Mexican food and we were treated to sopapillas for desert. Great food and exceptional service. Of course we knew it would be hot outside but we also enjoyed going into the shops in the area. I was hoping to find a nice art gallery and they had a few but they weren’t all open. Maybe due to it being off season in Scottsdale. It’s a nice area to checkout if you’re interested.

The old west charm is disappearing
Don't get me wrong, old town Scottsdale is still a nice place to visit. We've visited several times over the years since 2000 and can see a slow change. We feel it used to have more of the old west charm, family friendly, safe and laid back. We feel it's increasingly more upmarket art galleries, jewellery shops and more panhandlers (one of which was a bit verbally aggressive which made us move on quickly) - we understand the cost of living and social/mental/drug problems can be a cause which is also a problem here in the UK. There's still a few places holding on to the old charm like the Sugar Bowl, Mexican Imports etc. There used to be a lovely shop we couldn't now find selling native and western things at reasonable prices run by some older ladies but couldn't remember what the shop was called or exactly where it was in old town, I guess that's history like the nice ice cream parlour Cactus Cones I think it was called. Scottsdale city states that free parking is now 2 hours but it was still 3 hours as before when we went so not sure what's going on there, I hope they've dropped that idea (there was ample free parking). I do hope that Old Town Scottsdale doesn't turn like in to a little version of Hollywood with all the contradicting fakery and deprivation that comes along with that. Will be interesting to see again in a few more years time.

    Always fun!
We go every year for my wife's birthday celebration. We usually stay at the Marriott Old Town or the Valley Ho. The Marriott is a bit less expensive and actually is closer to the center of Old Town. The Valley Ho is a retro-mod hotel and good fun. We usually park the car and walk everywhere during the weekend. We always hit the Rusty Spur Saloon. A small place, but big fun!! They most always have a solo artist playing good music and the staff is great. We usually take in the shops and galleries during the day and typically try different restaurants each evening. A few recommended places to see: The Waterfront Fashion Square Museums Many galleries and stores in old town A few recommended places to eat: Citizen Public House (upscale but reasonable) JT Prime Kitchen (a bit small & "dark" but good food, a tad $$$$) The Mission (good Mexican food - if outside watch out for the birds at dusk) Bootleggers (good smokehouse, usually not too crowded. Try the shine) Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers (typical burger & beer joint but tasty) We tried Bourbon & Bones once and found it very overpriced and not very good. Service and atmosphere below par. Have fun!

A fun place with lots of art and good restaurants
Old Scottsdale is so much fun. The art galleries are beautiful. The Museum of the West is fabulous. The modern art is incredible. The movies are so interesting. The silver saddles and cowboy relics are fun to see….and the statues are quite remarkable. And then there are the restaurants which are fabulous. A day in old Scottsdale is well worth the trip!

    Just restaurants and shops
Plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, boutique shops, but otherwise nothing to write home about. Parking is plentiful and free in the garages. We walked for an hour or so and then headed for a Mexican dinner. Some boutiques have really pretty glass vases and statuettes.

A step into the old west.
Fun shops and a nice way to spend a few hours. Quaint streets and beautiful art offerings and jewelry. Nice restaurants. Volunteers staff an information booth in the center of the area and are very helpful. Walk to the park and enjoy the outdoor art and great weather.

Scottsdale is a fun place to visit.
I went to Scottsdale with friends for a few days. We stayed at the Hyatt Old Town, which was a great location. We were able to walk to all the great restaurants, bars, shops and galleries. We enjoyed our time in Scottsdale. Everyone we encountered was kind and polite. The hospitality was off the charts.

It was nice being back here, since my last visit with my mom in 1992! This time, I was back with my hubby as I was showing him the Scottsdale area for his first time. We shopped together at first, then we split-up so he could go for a walk. I browsed the shops for quite awhile, choosing my gift and clothing selections. Plenty of shops in this area for souvenir, and gifts needs.

Old Town Scottsdale consists of several streets of art shops, galleries, eating establishments and Indian/South western-type shops. Although it was actually raining the day we went there, we enjoyed popping in and out of the various shops and galleries and enjoyed a delicious waffle bowl at Jeni's Ice Cream Shop. Lunch at The Herb Box was very good as well.

Meh. Basically just a cluster of stores that sell either southwestern jewelry, tacky touristy trinkets, or cheesy clothing. I’d say skip it unless you’re really into southwestern jewelry.

Very cool place to spend some time! Lots of shops to browse! Great restaurants and bars! Parking is accessible on streets. Public restrooms in center of town were unique. We visited during the week so there were not that many people but I am sure on weekends the place is packed! Watch out for the people with the serums and moisturizers that "will make you younger and take your wrinkles away"! They are relentless and the same as the foreigners that run the kiosks in the malls!

There is so much to do in Scotsdale, Arizona. An Olive oil store, gellatios and plenty of food too. Visited the Little Red Schoolhouse and Art Museum.

Great place to spend a few hours walking around to enjoy boutique shops, restaurants, bars and souvenirs as well. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the authentic western area as well. Something for everyone here and must do when in Sedona.

I love going to an Old Town on vacation, but it seems that the merchandise in a lot of the shops is touristy junk that no one looks forward to receiving. On the other hand, there are a lot of nice Native American shops with individuality. As in any tourist location, stuff is overpriced, then they offer 20-70% off. Sometimes you see a real bargain, but for the most part, not.
