Went up the South Fork trail to Red Rock and beyond on the Burro Trail. Pleasant hike with great views of the amazing rocks. Didn't go all the way up the South Fork trail but would like to try it sometime. Also did the Nature...More

We hiked about two miles up the South Fork Trail at Cave Creek in the Chiracahua mountains and loved the biodiversity: we saw cacti, fern, sycamore, and evergreen trees. Although we are not birders, this is a great place to view a wide variety of...More

We did an afternoon hike up the trail. It was interesting to see how the creek has washed out and apparently widened after the Horseshoe 2 fire of 2011. The canyon walls are stupendous, colors in the rocks, etc. Plenty of birding, and I did...More

The Portal area's Cave Creek Canyon and Paradise area sky islands are geo and bio treasures. On a casual pass-thru, we saw gorgeous turkeys with multiple hens in a harem, and came within a mile or so of an Elegant Trogon. The 4-Bar ranch's cabins...More

This canyon has great hiking, it's teeming with wildlife and spectacular views. The best way to get there is by way of Douglas, AZ, because the roads paved, a lot of Arizona's marked roadways aren't paved.

This is an excellent area for nature study, but you'll want to bring sturdy hiking shoes. The trail from the parking lot requires fording of the stream and is too rough for handicapped travel.

We visited at the tail end of high season and there were not crowds, almost no traffic and very few campers. It was quiet, beautiful ( but not rewarding this time of year for the rarities I was searching for ...)

Since I don't walk very well, we just drove through and looked at all the beautiful rock formations and visited the Ranger Station and had a nice visit with John and Tim. We saw some beautiful reptiles there on display.
