We visited the Glacier museum the previous day and found this to be extremely helpful when we visited the Moreno Glacier the next day. The entire periwnce of being face to face with River of Ice is an event akin to being on top of Everest of at the Bottom of the Pacific Trench. Should be on every Bucket List

The Glacier is breathtaking, we did the whole walk way in its entirety, about 4 km. Do not be put off by the number of stairs you walk down on the walkways as the compete circuit ends up at lake level where there is another car park and our driver met us there (having dropped us off at the top at the visitors' centre). Watching the glacier calve is spell binding, there are enough viewing points along the way that you don't feel as if its too busy but we went early in the morning. Cafe in visitors centre produced basic lunch but nothing special

The glacier is truly spectacular and fully lived up to our expectations. Park entry is 800 pesos per person as of February 2020. The walkway for the viewing areas is very well put together and comprises a metal walkway with safety barriers both sides. The walking is generally fairly easy going but there lots of steps. The walkway opens onto regular viewing areas many with seats. I can’t begin to explain how fantastic the glacier is, you just need to go and see for yourself.

You can’t miss the opportunity of seeing this glacier up close. It’s an easy drive from El Calafate, about an hour and a half. We did a one hour boat trip with Southern Spirit - I chose this company because they are the only company operating from the north side with the jetty at the lower car park for the glacier - regular shuttles take you to the upper observation walkways if you don’t want to walk up there. From my limited experience of two visits I would recommend getting there early, say by 9.00, then you can easily park in the upper car park, which we found more convenient, it’s very quiet, skies are likely to be clear and perhaps less wind.

Wonderful glacier viewing walkway is an understatement. This excellent walkway trail up and down and back and forth across the low mountain face that the center of the vast Perito Moreno glacier is grounded on offers incredible close up views of this spectacular glacier. There are many wide viewing stops on the trails or walkways. We took both the yellow trail and the lower part of the red trail. After viewing you follow the yellow trail down and along the lake to the lower lodge and most bus and van pickups. To be so close to the face of this vast , towering glacier and be able to walk back and forth is unique in the world! This is truly a “ Must see” !!

Wow! We were picked up from our hotel and drove about an hour to get to the part where the glacier hikers/trekkers go. We took a boat over to the place where the glacier is - although you can pretty much see it from everywhere.
We walked to the "hut" and we treated to awesome views of the glacier as we got nearer and nearer. The guide leading us was very patient with everyone because everyone wanted to get photos! It was spectacular!
(We left our lunch in one of two buildings. You could have left your pack if you wanted to as well. They have "cubby hole" for stuff - and that seems to work out)
At the hut we were all fitted for crampons. I knew to wear boots and I must say they made your feet feel lots more stable. You could do it in sneakers, but I saw some people struggling because of it. They put them on for you and they are tight. They give you instructions as to how to walk in them. You can ever walk through the glacier steams because the spikes keep your feel out of the water. It is also safest to walk through the water instead of trying to avoid it.
We stopped for pictures in selected spots. I would have stopped more, but we were in a group and walking in a line. They have gloves to wear and they make sure that you do. They would save your hands if you fell.

To go to the viewing point for Perito Moreno is a must, Easy drive from El Calafate in 1.5 hrs. The national park have done a superb job with walkway made in aluminium over the rocks so as not to damage the environment. The veiewpoint is huge and perfectly situated for seeing the end of the snout of the galcier as it fallls off into the lake. An essentail /

I have seen about 13 glaciers now around the world and this was the most beautiful and spectacular by far. One side is turquoise blue, with blue lake feeding into a river and the other side of the glacier is grey, with grey lake - it is very unusual!! The grey lake then feeds into the turquoise blue lake! The glacier is moving forward so regularly calves ice - the sounds are spectacular and it is exciting trying to see where it will next calve!
We did the boat trip to the turquoise side of the glacier and I honestly wished we had not as the walkways in front of the glacier are excellent and offer beautiful panoramic perspectives onto the glacier. I was really impressed with the walkways.
An excellent place to visit and one I 100% recommend!

Argentine Los Glaciares National Park is the largest glacier outside Antarctica and growing. Moreno Glacier is the most easily accessible and also a UNESCO site. We went there early to beat the crowd and spend more time at view points towards national park. First stop is Mirador del Glacier.
Boat leaves from Puerto Bajo las Sombra (inside the national park) and Hielo & Aventura run all activities here. Since we came with our own rental car, 1 hour boat ride to see the glacier up close is about $14 (or 4000 pesos). Otherwise, tour agencies charge like 6000 pesos per person for transport.
After boat ride, we stopped at observation deck, Mirador Primer Balcon/Walkways. Iceberg canal and café stop at last. Do walkways in the afternoon for more ice caving. More scenic driving to check other parts of this beautiful place before returning to Calafate.
We decided not to do much more expensive cruise tour to Upsala Glacier, Spegazzini Glacier pesos 34000, not so gourmet tour at 39000 as both get mixed reviews. Compared to that I consider Hielo & Aventura offer better value. I might be kicking myself for not doing mini ice trekking at least but it is very cold when we arrived to pier.
Funny enough, many people stayed in Chilean side also do long day trip, crossing the border to see Moreno Glacier. People like us in Calafate go different direction to see TdP. Well, we got to see both as they are magnificent, must do in Patagonia.
FYI: I am just mentioning price in pesos just for a reference. With high inflation, price goes up quickly but conversion to $ price is always the same. Bring $ and exchange only inside Argentina, spend at restaurants, shops to get best (blue dollar) rate.

Booked a tour to go there two weeks ago before the trip, but in El Calafate, the weather could change significantly day by day . Had to cancelled that tour when I arrived there since it gonna rain, and then re-booked the tour for Christmas eve, which was a beautiful day. The Glaciers and Mt. couldn't be more beautiful. Once saw glaciers in Alaska and Banff National Park, but Moreno glacier looks more magnificent and splendid in all the aspects. Riding a boat definitely gave you additional experience. If you have time, check the weather before you go!

? Gracias
Written 9 February 2022
