Of the four museums we visited today, this one was by far the most interesting. It houses lots of ancient pottery and art objects, but for me the most interesting was the collection of old carriages, mostly in original condition (see my photos). Entry is...More

Lots of historical exhibits and artefacts but info is only in Spanish and taking photos is not allowed in the rooms. There is a balcony which overlooks the square and a courtyard with old carriages and cars in it. Well worth the visit.

Lovely little museum with interesting artefacts from ancient pottery to horse carriages! the building was also interesting and on the top floor you can get a good view over the main square of Salta. Free entry, and a very quaint and charming building with a...More

Well, this museum contains some pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial stuff. Unfortunately, the information given was all in Spanish. We went there on a Sunday, and the entrance was free, which was nice.

A great way to get an overview of the Colonial era in Salta (and it's surroundings). Conveniently located just off the central downtown plaza, this lovely old building is beautifully restored and the many rooms and courtyards are filled with an interesting selection of artifacts/art....More

This museum is worth visiting for the building itself which was the governing one in colonial times. The contents of the museum are a varied mixture telling the history of the city. You will need to know Spanish to get more out of your visit.

This is a handsome and extensive neo-Colonial structure housing many rooms with archeological artifacts, furniture, paintings, and so on. There are two courtyards and overall, a good deal of charm about the place. Well worth a visit.

An easy In-the-square experience. The building might be as interesting as the collection and there were various "stories" available for telling about different periods, leaders, religious aspects, money and coinage (which, given Argentina's financial struggles can well be placed in a museum). A good way...More

A great old building of the Cabildo of Salta, with a very beautiful architecture and that makes you go back in time to the time of the colony. It is in front of the central square, therefore close to anything in Salta.

The Cabildo in Salta is one of the buildings surrounding the city's central square. Housed inside is an interesting collection of historical artifacts covering the pre-colonial, colonial, and post-independence periods of Salta up to about the early 20th century. When I first entered I didn't...More
