Here you will find the same souvenirs you find at the stalls across the street from the mercado artesanal but for less money. The tour buses don't stop here. Yes, dirty and I personally wouldn't eat there, but if you want bargains, I recommend it.

We love local fruit and vegetable markets combined with local cuisine. But this market does not offer much. Grumpy stall holders, dirty, and very seedy. The lunch stall overcharged us beyond belief. And as we were leaving a fight broke out at the exit and we had to retreat back into the market and take another exit. Not recommended.

There is an excellent selection of all sorts of great local treats like Empanadas, Locro, and Pollo Picante. We had the Pollo Picante at Maldonado and liked it so much that we went back. This is also a great market to find fresh produce, meats, or even some coca leaves. The market closes for siesta and may be closed on... More
