A really pretty square.

Lovely to sit in and relax and also lots of shops and restaurants around.

Some artisanal stalls too.

The centre of Salta’s tree-lined main square is a shaded oasis of greenery, surrounded by cafes, restaurants and bars, the beautiful Cathedral, and the 18th Century colonial Town Hall. Shops, museums, and other attractions are nearby. An excellent point from which to explore.

I love this Plaza! Unlike the ones in other pueblos or ciudads, this Plaza is always busy. Everybody’s here providing or consuming entertainment. In the afternoon, children feed pigeons with popcorns, and at night there’s some traditional dancing, magic tricks, etc.

You cannot miss this park, as you will visit the Cathedral or one of the museums closeby. Nice to see local dancers doing their thing, unfortunately too many informal sellers.

South American and particularly Argentina is renowned for its beautiful squares. This however is next level.

All of us visited several times and just chilled out through out our stay.

We were surprised by the wealth of dancing and music being performed in the morning. There were about ten different acts of varying talent with the hat being passed to collect offerings.

remember this operates within a siesta time frame so shopping after one not really possible but possible after 4 or 5. Lots of places to eat but need to be aware lots of people cannot afford to do this so you can wrap up what you dont use and pass on to those who need. Nobody asks for anything, no real begging but people are thankful for anything you give. At 40% inflation life is a struggle for most and if you look hard enough there are painful reminders that those in need are large familys who are well mannered any little you can give helps.

July 9th is the date of Argentinian independence. The plaza is where the city was founded. It is the heart of the city with the cathedral to the north, the MAAM to the west and the Cabildo to the south. Statues, fountains, trees and benches are all present. It has a buzz to it. Sit down and watch people go by.
