I found this church to be much more beautiful than the cathedral and also a lot less busy. Painted terracotta and yellow on the outside the church has the highest bell tower in the country and each tier is of a different type of Greek architecture, Corinthians, Doric etc. Wonderfully atmospheric inside and be sure to find the present from... A very beautiful old church. The area surrounding it is equally as interesting. Salta has some great colonial buildings.

This has to be my favourite church building from the ones we saw anywhere in Argentina. Lovely colours, delightful both inside and out, a lovely garden cloister, some interesting statues including a very pregnant Mary... The painted ceiling and dome were beautifully done. When we visited during the day, there was some lovely music playing which added to the atmosphere.... More

Both exterior and interior are stunning. Make sure you also walk by at night to see the illumination

A bit anachronistic because it has a huge Russian style icon cross in a very Spanish colonial church! Still, very pretty and worth seeing!

The Iglesia San Francisco is beautiful inside and out and if you read up on the history or have a knowledgeable guide, you will learn that there is a patron Saint called Virgen de la dulce espera (pregnant virgin) who is worshipped by expecting mothers and a patron Saint (Roque) for dogs. They hold a mass for dogs every year.

The is the Franciscan church in center of Salta. A very beautiful church. Not really an attraction for kids. Easy access, and basically all you can expect from a church to be.

Very beautifully colored church with nice interiors and next door is the San Francisco Monastery. Nice inside. Tours available on site. Quick visit and worth the time if you are downtown Salta Currently undergoing renovations at the tower but does not affect the visit.
