I was on a small tour from Salta to Cachi with a group of international tourists. We were so in awe of our wonderful driver who drove very cautiously on the narrow, dusty winding roads navigating the hairpin bends. Around every corner the views were so spectacular. Until we stopped at the peak, we did not realise how many bends we had driven and the steepness of the mountain side. Oh, what an amazing view.
Near the peak is a cute little chapel named San Rafael.

If you are in the Salta area, take the time to do the drive to Cachi, well worth it.

A viewpoint found in Cuesta del Obispo on the way to Cachi. When the weather is good, it has a spectacular view and is worth taking some photos. It also has local products for sale (seasoned and cold cheeses, such as llama salami). In the same place you will also find the Capilla San Rafael, a small old chapel that is a symbol of the place.

As part of our three day tour we left Salta, driving through a valley of lush green which then just as suddenly changed into dry cactus filled hills and then up into drier multi-coloured hills over 3000 m on this hair-pinned road to the mountain pass. A lookout just before the pass gives a view of the gravel road up the last part of the road up. We had a beautiful clear day and very little wind just a little cool Unfortunately the little chapel is gated and you can only peer through. There isno sign about the "stones of the windmill". There was a single millstone/grindstone but no explanation. The colours of the mountains as you descend this mountain pass into the flat valley once again filled with flowering cactuses was gorgeous, but even better the colours in the mountains to the left hand side of the main road into Cachi was so different and colours of green, purple, ted, orange, yellow, white, greys. Wind eroded hills of varied shapes. A road to the left here takes you into this colourful landscape.

did not like it that much, but like a tourist it is a place that you have to go... at least for twenty minutes

Connection point between the Cuesta del Obispo and the Los Cardones National Park, it has a small chapel and a stone mill wheel, as well as the sign indicating the altitude above sea level. For a five minute stop.
