Beatiful and indeed very large salt flat. The tour going on to the lake with a guide is recommended as he can explan about the mining of the salts and the history.

Way up in north Argentina, about a five hour ride from Salta, or about 2.5 hours from Purmamarca (a great lunch stop), this 220 sq km of the great salt flat is stunning. You can walk on the salt bed (an inch or so of...More

For 250 pesos I went on a half day trip from Purmarmarca to the Salinas Grandes in a mini van. Drive over took around 2.5 hours. We stopped twice for pictures i.e. on the highest crossing point. Saw a pack of vicuñas and a guarnacos....More

This is the worst review I've given and I feel bad giving it but I have to tell the truth, whilst the drive to the Salinas Grandes was spectacular at times, the salt flats themselves were really not much to write home about. There were...More

If you go, make sure to go when the sky is clear. Pictures don't do this place justice. Must see, if you are in Jujuy. Totally worth the drive.

Awesome salt flats on a plateau high in the Andes foothills. Unless you've got a 4x4 or a dirt bike, get there from the Purmamarca direction via paved roads rather than on the teeth rattling dirt track from San Antonio de los Cobres. Once at...More
