This is the border immigration compound between Chile and the Mendoza province in Argentina. The Chilean and Argentina immigration are integrated. However, it took us four long hours to cross the border to Argentina due to the high volume of vehicles during this long weekend in Chile. The immigration staff were nice but it seems there was a strike by the Customs staff in Argentina. We must say that the road is great on both sides of the border. This place is at 3200 meters of altitude.

This is a great way to get from Santiago to Mendoza. It is very scenic and thrilling to traverse the 29 switchbacks to crest the Andes. It is a 5 to 6 hour ride, longer if there are lines at the border. There are many bus companies that offer this fare and I am so glad we did the bus instead of fly. We chose a double decker bus and seats were very comfy. Make your reservations in advance so you can get on the top deck and seats in the front. Note that in winter months the pass may be closed so check first.
