This valley, where are located Villa General Belgrano, Los Reartes, Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, among other little and quaint towns; has scenic natural views. We started our travel through Route N° 5 and watching Dique Los Molinos. Our guide Silvio was very helpful.

Excellent tour, fantastic views, spectacular lakes, good local food on the retaurants and helpful guide. I would definitely try to spend some more time in this area next time whilst in Cordoba. Spring made the things even better...

This is a beautiful valley in the Cordoba mountains in the center of Argentina. There are many lakes and rivers that you can enjoy on summer. In the winter, you can hike, walk, shop and dine in local villages. Feature towns are Santa Rosa de Calamuchita and Villa General Belgrano, the last one is a German influenced chramimg village. Hotels and cabins are plenty and comfortable! You reach this valley flying to Cordoba city and then you can take transfers (1 1/2 hour) to the valley.

I strongly recommend the driving journey that spreads from Alta Gracia city to Embalse city, finding on the way: Dique Los Molinos, Los Reartes, Villa General Belgrano,Embalse. The drive is incredibly beautiful, along a winding mountain road in very good condition, with many stops at " scenic balconies " on the way.The whole journey can be covered in 1,5 hour- drive if you don´t stop. But of course, there are many reasons for visiting these cities along the way, so you may choose to sleep at Villa General Belgrano ( a taste of Germany on this side of the globe ), and make day tours to Alta Gracia with its Jesuit reservation and to Dique los Molinos, with its incredible views.

Stayed in Cordoba and took a few days to check out the Calamuchita Valley and Villa General Belgrano. It was a great and worthwhile getaway. You'll need a rental car to get the most of the surrounding areas. We stayed in Los Reartes and found it to be the perfect base for our trip.

This town was founded in the 1930's and it's a pleasant place to visit. With interesting shops and many restaurants it is makes for an interesting day out. The annual October Bier fest must draw huge crowds!

I have visited this part of Cordoba a dozen times in the last 4 or 5 years. Whether you like water sports, trekking, bird watching or simply enjoying traditional beers and "chivito" (a young goat) you will not be disappointed. Villa General Belgrano is best known for its Oktoberfest where descendants from various communities (German, Italian, Spanish, Croatian, Polish, etc) parade in the main street wearing traditional costumes. And yes the Scottish wear nothing under their kilt!
There are plenty of German restaurants and the main street has bedding flowers that make you think you're somewhere in Bavaria. The gothic writing and the style of some of the buildings add to this.
Another town I enjoy is Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, the river walk has recently been modernised and you can have a walk or run it on both sides. There is a small suspension bridge that looks stunning at night. There are a couple of good restaurants on the river (Los Personajes) is to my mind the best.
There are also some good restaurants along the main street, Santa Rosa feels less touristy than VGB but it should also be visited.
There are also two lakes that provide electricity to the national grid, these are Dique el Molino (The Windmill Dam) and Embalse Rio Tercero, another enormous lake with breath-taking views. Both are within 30 minutes drive from either town.
There are many cabañas to rent as well as hotels to suit every taste and budget.
