Delta El Tigre
Delta El Tigre
4.5
About
The tigre delta is 45 minutes from Buenos Aires Argentina and flows into the Río de la Plata. One of its attractions is that it is quite a bit cooler than Buenos Aires, and offers as its main attraction houses built on the delta only accessible by boat. Tours can be had from Buenos Aires and pick up can be arrange from major hotels for a day trip. Or the more adventurous might choose to take the train, a direct link from downtown, although the station is noted for its pickpockets.

You can take the one hour city train for about $7 to Tigre. dedicated run from Buenos Aires to Tigre (end of the line) Out of the station many vendors selling 1 to 2 hour boat rides in the river delta ($15) . Many fast food restaurants, gardens, clean city. Great day get away from the main city.

We were picked up at our hotel on time by Florence who was excellent the entire tour guide throughout. We travelled through the city to reach our ferry and then waited for a while on a shaded deck until our ferry arrived. The trip up the river was pleasant...once we arrived in the Tigre Delta it was very interesting backed by the commentary. Lunch provided was delicious. The trip to the market could have been a bit longer..nice stop at San Isidro. Robert our driver was always very helpful and very considerate.

It’s east to get to Tigre by train from the Retiro station. Costs 20 pesos to get there - trains every 15 minutes or so. The town is pleasant, but it’s just a town with a river and loads of shops, particularly in the renovated fruit market area - it’s not a fruit market anymore. There are loads of boat trips for an hour or two, but you don’t get to see a lot of the nature of the area - just lots of houses which back onto the water. I would recommend a more specialist boat tour to view the delta. My score is for what we saw, which wasn’t much.

Ride the Tigre Line from BA Retrio Station to the end of the line (1 hr, 750 ARS each ). When you exit the train station, cross the roundabout, walk just behind McDonalds where there is a visitor center and a place that sells boat excursion tickets. We actually didn’t know this until after we had walked to the docks. There we purchased boat tickets for the only boat available the afternoon. For 17,000 ARS each, the Sturla boat company crossed 5 rivers around the Pararia Delta while Spanish and English audio provided commentary of the sights and history. Very enjoyable.

There the Parana and Uruguay rivers meet is a large area of island, canals and a unique way of life. This is the El Tigre district and we thoroughly enjoyed getting a boat tour of this fascinating place. In the delta area there are no roads and everyone gets around by boat. The history is very interesting and it is a great change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires. About 4000 people live in the delta. Most tourists no doubt do as we did and take a tour on a large boat with narration as you go. This would be a great place to book a place to stay for a few days and explore all the quirky little bars etc that seem to be everywhere, so long as you had someone showing you the way. I suspect that you could get lost in the maze of channels otherwise.

We found Tigre juts average. The delta is horrendously polluted and the boat tour was only mildly interesting. Having said this it is worth a look - just don’t pay too much for a tour - there are better things to spend your money on in Argentina.

Imagine sitting comfortably in a tour boat and seeing how a whole sub section of the city lives on islands with no real streets. Everything is done by boat. It gave me pause to think if this was something that I could ever do!

Not an area toured by people who want to see big cities with fancy restaurants and hotels and well-to-do inhabitants, including merchants. This is a very different lifestyle for the people living here. A worthwhile boat trip to see this.

Nice tour that leaves from the piers of Puerto Madero and goes up parallel to the Mar de la Plata to the mouth of the Tigre River, a residential area with beautiful houses that overlook the canals and you go parallel to the city of Buenos Aires on a boat seeing the entire area that faces the coast (Aeroparque, Costanera Norte, etc.) and its neighborhoods. The estuary is fine and beautiful, but you DO NOT go in to explore the most natural areas of the estuary, and that was a disappointment for me, since my interest in seeing houses and mansions of more or less wealthy people does not attract me too much. Then others in San Isidro and you get off and they leave you to your own devices. The excursion lasts 1/2 morning and you return around lunchtime or a little later. The excursion is good, but overrated. I expected something else and not to go see houses on the banks of the estuary. That doesn't mean anything to me.

Nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle. Took a taxi from Retiro all the way to Puerto de Frutas in Tigre, cost about 7000 pesos. Puerto de Frutas was really busy with lots of vendors and restaurants. We took a quick catamaran around the delta, it was about 2000 pesos per person and our 5yr old was free. A good way to spend the afternoon!

Mira, te cuento mí experiencia. Fui a buenos Aires por 5 días y me hice un paseo hasta tigre un día. A mí gustó muchísimo.

Bom passeio. Vale a pena!
