The area
Neighbourhood: San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

Decent little place
Dec 2019 • Friends
Stopped in post dinner with friends for a quick one. 4-5 beers on tap, mostly American hoppy styles. Enjoyed the honey basil blonde.

Vibe is a bit grungy but the bartender was very welcoming and let us sample several before ordering. It’s not exactly a destination brewery but I’m impressed they are brewing their own in the heart of BA.

Terrible vibe. Bartender terrible
Feb 2019 • Couples
Walked in a half hour after opening and bar tender was blasting punk rock loud enough that I could hardly hear my girlfriend. There were signs saying that they accepted credit card but bartender told us it wasn’t working. We asked for a pitcher of the APA but the bartender told us her had to finish cleaning before serving us. Despite it being almost an hour after arriving, we still weren’t being served because they were still cleaning the place. Finally we were served the pitcher and the beer was completely flat. The funny thing is that the password for the WiFi was @dontdrinkpisswater@. That beer was PISSWATER. Avoid this bar at all costs for any sporting event. La puerta roja is ten times better in menu, service and tv screens and only 3 blocks away.

A trip home

I was their first customer back in 2016. JT is building a nice business. The TEX-MEX menu is very good. The honey basil beer is good. I enjoy stopping here.

Loved the whiskey dog stout. Seriously one of the coolest places I've been to in Buenos Aires. J.T is the man! Awesome staff! Totally recommend this place.

Go for the beer (only)
Nov 2016 • Solo
Go for the excellent in-house made beer. Much of it is high strength but you do get great taste. The free roasted monkey nuts were a nice touch.

The smoking and the very loud Americans that were there when I went brought it down a touch. But hey it's a bar what else should I expect.

Best Stout in South America & Home of the Dulce de Leche Amber
May 2016 • Friends
Sexton's is my favorite watering hole in BA. With the only on-site made craft beers in San Telmo and a perfect mix of local regulars, permatourists/expats, and tourists, feel free to go alone or with friends. The friendly, attentive, and bilingual staff is a welcome break from most BA bartenders who are on their phones or chatting with friends. I say go for the dark beers, the Nitro Stout is my favorite, but the Dulce de Leche Amber and Yerba Mate Pilsner are tasty & unique beers exclusively found at Sextons. If you're hungry, I'm partial to the nachos (good nachos are hard to find in BA) but the chicken wings will remind you of home too (if you're from the USA that is.)

Decent beer,shame about the smoking
May 2016 • Couples
Tasty beers at a decent price (try the honey beer,it's excellent) but lacking in atmosphere in the downstairs bar. The barmaid allowed people to smoke at the bar, which kind of spoilt it for us. It's hard to enjoy a pint and relax when you're sat in clouds of second hand smoke in a small room. Because of this we only had 1 drink then headed to San Telmo Brew Pub,which was much more enjoyable.
