About
"Maldita" is the milonga you want to be in Buenos Aires. A space where dancing and live music vibrates together, mixing traditional spirit and new musical concepts. This place is filled with an intense vibe that comes from the mystisicm of the orchestra, the decoration and dark ambience of the room, and the fact that this place used to be the "meca" of punk-rock´s local scene in the 90s. We have tango classes for beginners and intermediates (9pm). The Orquesta Tipica El Afronte plays its live music with a powerful new sound, breaking schemes and presenting the tango from a young and genuine perspective (11pm) And regulary after midnight, a couple of proffesional guest dancer makes a brief performance. Our milonga is an iconic space in tango scene where you´ll have the opportunity of learn how to dance tango, interact with local dancers, make new friends and truly experience Buenos Aires music of today.

I feel very lucky to know this from Marco! I happen to know Marco thru my friend in S'pore.

Marco was the singer for this function! He was the one to mention about this event and arrange us (my friend and I) a table too!!

We had a fantastic night learning to dance the tango from 9-10:30 pm. There were two sets - one for beginners level and the other for people who already knew how to dance. I and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the night learning, dancing, socializing, hearing the band sing, and drinking... what a lovely night it was.

Marco, the singer, was very helpful. He had a great voice to sing! We so much enjoyed his band play and his songs. He was one of the handsome men there too...LOL.

I was glad that we did not go to those touristy shows with dinner. When I went there, I had no expectations... actually looked a bit shady...but once the people started coming in and teaching started, boy!! it was FUN.

Great way to see some tango while in B.A. if you don't want to go to one of the more formal/touristy Tango shows. Watch locals dance the tango while you sip on a beer or wine and relax!

My tour guide told me about the tango classes on Wednesday nights and I'm so glad I went. Each Wednesday, you can take a tango class at 9pm or so which goes about an hour. Then a fantastic band comes on and plays for about 30 minutes. The night I was there, two pairs of professional tango dancers danced for us which was great. I left around 12:30am but the night was still going. The whole evening only cost $300 pesos, great deal and a lot of fun!

Luckily we were told about this event from our walking guide Luke. Only on a Wednesday. Don’t think we would have found it by ourselves. A very inconspicuous entrance down a quiet street. Many say to book but we just turned up. Offers tango lessons. & then the chance to tango. All levels. Had a live band for around an hour and 2 professional tango couples showed us how it should be done. Enjoy watching with a glass of Malbec, cheaper than beer! Get there 9 for the lessons & 10 for the action

This is a traditional milonga (Tango club) located in San Telmo, an area that is close to where most tourists would stay and is as pleasant by night as it is by day (women were out walking their dog at 1am for example). For about $6, you gain entry to the club where you can order drinks and even empanadas should you not have had dinner. Everyone who comes is there to enjoy themselves. Some are with their life partners, others come singly and dance with other singles, a few tourists fill the rest. There is a live orchestra around 11:30pm, some professional tango dancers show off their trade at one point, but, mostly, people just dance as if they were the only couple on earth at that very moment. Whether you dance or not, you will go home with quiet contentment and sleep like a baby.

Love this Milonga. Friendly. Great live band. Younger crowd than many very traditional Milonga but dancers have excellent technique and perfect floor craft which is a good thing as the floor is quite small. This will be the third year we have been back. They welcome watchers but it is really a place for dancers. You need to book a table and arrive before 10.30 as the band usually starts at 11

That was more than a show. Great music, great voice, great time. You can have Tango lesson and then stay for the show. Really good experience.

We went there on a Wednesday and arrived around 11pm. The place was packed. We did not reserve a table so we could only sit on the bar stools. We had a decent view of the stage where the live orchestra performed but our view of the dance floor was limited. We recommend reserving a table if you would like to be closer to the dance floor.
There was a live orchestra performance around 11pm. The performance lasted around 30 minutes and it was nice. There was also a short tango demonstration around midnight.
The atmosphere of this milonga was somewhat laid back and it was tourist friendly. However, it might not be the most authentic milonga experience and you might be a bit disappointed if you want to see people dancing. The dance floor was on the small side and there was not many people dancing the whole time we were there (we left around 2am). A lot of people left around 1am.

We showed up too late for the lesson, but we were able to watch professionals, and then locals and tourists take to the dance floor. The atmosphere was chill and laid-back, and the space was cool (a large wooden dance floor in the center, surrounded by tables and chairs). We really enjoyed watching both pros and "regular people" dance.

The entry fee was $200 Argentinian pesos (about $10 USD), and bottles of wine were even less ($170 Argentinian pesos for some).

The only negative was that the girl working the front door wasn't the friendliest. Maybe she was tired, but we weren't thrilled with her attitude. Otherwise, the bar staff was fine.

Visited with my wife and in December. We had had all of three tango lessons before coming to Buenos Aires and found the 9 pm lesson to be great! Easy for beginners, but they also had moves for more experienced dancers. We stayed for the dynamic tango band, El Afronte, and even hit the floor a few times with our new moves. There was a professional performance around midnight. Matilda has everything a traveler needs for a night of tango!
