Well, I grew up in this city, so I spent several Sundays afternoons lying on the grass of this park after or before admiring the hand craft market. It's, with no doubt, something I would recommend to everyone visiting Buenos Aires.

This is the park adjacent to Recoleta Cemetery, and a weekend craft market is held here in the afternoons. One woman has a particularly interesting display of cross stiched towels with the word "Argentina" on it. She's just outside the Cathedral. If you cross through the crafts market (park), you can cross over the avenue to the Museum of Fine... More

Fun Sunday Activity on a fair weather day to check out the wares of local artisans. There is a Ukrainian lady and her daughter that sell gorgeous necklaces in pink rhodochrosite rose quartz that are somewhat unique to the area, reasonable in price and uniformly well received as presents in the US.

It was enjoyable to walk around this market just looking at everything for sale. For the most part, items had been made and were being sold by the artists themselves. I purchased a few items and had to stop myself as I didn't have room to bring more home with me. If you are a fan of local art, this... More

I have been to "artisan markets" around the world, and most are just stall after stall of the same dreck. But this market--open only on weekends--is truly unique. I am certain it is the best artisan market I have ever visited. Just about every one of the 100+ stalls has its own character, with one of a kind creations. The... More

We walked here from our hotel in Palermo Hollywood on Saturday morning. The craft market wasn't huge but the stuff was original, handmade & unique. Be sure to checkout the guy that carves matches & chaulk; so cool! Such a nice change from the usual "artisan" markets that sell crap that was made in China! There was also a small... More

Open only during the weekends, the fair in Plaza Francia adds even more flavour to the nearby Recoleta area. There over a hundred stands which sell mostly handmade objects, from jewelry to leather goods. Only a few of them take credit cards, though.

This park is just across the street from the Nacional Museo of Belle Artes. Lots of local and their dogs. Beautiful flowers on big trees. Check out the Sunday market. Street food galore but I was not eager to try since I was going to a cruise the next day.

Staying in Recoleta

Neighbourhood Profile
Recoleta
Characterised by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighbourhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. You'll also find a rich cultural scene centred on the National Museum of Fine Arts, the National Library, and the Recoleta Cultural Center; as well as some great shopping spots, like the Buenos Aires Design Mall with an artists' fair set up in Plaza Francia every weekend.
