Unbelievable marketplace ensconced in old area of Buenos Aires. You just don’t know where to look first. Antiques, clothing , rare spices, meats , vegetables and clothing are just a list of items to be found I. Stalls in This historical marketplace. A great stop on our city tour.

Wandering around San Telmo district is in itself a pool of discoveries; Defensa Street offers a variety of styles, varied architecture, galleries and expressions of art of all kinds, even better on Sundays. One block away from the street, San Telmo old market is a gem, with genuine kiosks and shops offering typical food (a bit overpriced but still), antique items and souvenirs. Most tourists tend to stick to Defense Street and would miss this market.

Such fun! We met friends over in the San Telmo neighborhood and ended up spending hours exploring the weekend market. The neighborhood, one of the oldest in Buenos Aires, is cool, with beautiful streets and interesting architecture. The main indoor market has tons of food options and a few shops. It is EXTREMELY crowded, so bring your patience. But it’s cool to walk through and has a great energy. While some of the vendors are a little junky, some are cool. The streets surrounding the outdoor market spill on for blocks and blocks and blocks with vendors selling all kinds of wares—again, a mix of some junky stuff and some cool stuff. There are a lot of antique vendors selling all kinds of glassware, silver, etc. And there’s a lot of vendors selling fresh-squeezed orange juice, which you should definitely buy (it was delicious). It happened to be beautiful weather, which made it all the more fun. A really great afternoon while in Buenos Aires.

Although weekends are the busiest, some vendors only open their stalls for weekend shoppers. All types of foods and goods are sold, including some antiquities, the majority of which I consider overpriced. The foods served are generally very good. There are always some interesting items to consider buying.

I just wish we had of found this place earlier in our visit? As it was, we only had time to scratch the surface on what was on offer in the market. Heaps of food sources & bars with all the other market offerings, from meat, vegies, vinyl records to curios! Absolutely packed on our visit and a very popular spot for locals & tourists. Make sure you give yourselves time to enjoy this place. Been going since 1897 and easy to see why!

Market street and a very crowded place. Lots of people walking around, have to be careful about your belongings. The market is amazing and good place to visit, also a lot of local shops on the streets to get lots of souvenirs
