The area
Neighbourhood: San Telmo
Characterized by cobblestones and narrow streets, San Telmo is defined by the tango, the dance that made Buenos Aires world-famous. Tango is a fusion of many different cultures: a true child of immigration, much like the city itself. Nowadays, it comes alive after dark in the milongas (dance parties) attended by both locals and visitors alike, who dance until the wee hours of the morning. During the day, the antique shops and classic cafés and bars around Plaza Dorrego dominate the scene. The emblematic Bar Plaza Dorrego, with its green awnings, checkered tile floors, and wooden interiors, takes you back in time the moment you step inside. For true porteño traditions, San Telmo is the place to be.

When I visited this park on a Sunday in mid-December, I thought it would look like the pretty pictures posted here. Alas, it did not. It is looking a bit worn these days. The grass was patchy and dying, there weren't any colorful flowers or trees, and the statues and monuments were faded, cracking, and dirty. The park itself was mostly abandoned except for a few homeless people and druggies wandering about. We did not feel we were in danger, but we walked the area with caution.
There were a few interesting monuments, particularly the large bronze sculpture fountain by the flea market stands at the southern end of the park, though the water was brown and dirty. The Museo Historic Nacional is located at the edge of this park, though there are many more impressive museums to visit, in my opinion.
Though it is only a 10 minute walk to Plaza Dorrego and the San Telmo area, I wouldn't bother going out of your way to visit this park. There are plenty of more charming parks in Buenos Aires, particularly near Plaza de Mayo and Puerto Madero, Recoleta, and Palermo.

I was hoping to spend some time here at this park, but there was very little to see here and very few photo opportunities. Kind of rundown and unkempt. There is an open air market on the weekends and the history museum is part of the grounds, but the park itself was lack luster.

This park is one of the prettiest in Buenos Aires. Well worth including on a day that includes the San Telmo market. There are also some wonderful restaurants nearby for lunch or dinner. The headline picture just doesn’t do justice to it

Once the private garden of the Lezama family, Parque Lezama is one of the city's oldest parks. Belgian landscape designer Charles Veerecke was engaged to beautify the original grounds, planting rows of tipa and jacaranda trees decades before the three species became nearly emblematic of the city at large. Following his 1894 passing, Lezama's widow sold the 8 hectare (20 acre) estate to the city for a token sum, on condition that the grounds become a park in her late husband's name.

Lezama Park is a nice public park in San Telmo surrounded by old residential premises. In fact, the area belongs to a private family but after years it turns to public use with monuments, green lawns and children play equipment installed thereat. Recommended to relax in this nice historical park after visiting San Telmo and La Boca.

This is a relatively large park next to the museum, and at the edge of San Telmo as you walk towards LA Boca. There's not a lot to "see", several statues and monuments, but it is a large green space. There was some construction going on in early September, and there were a few groups having yoga sessions on the grass. Lots of parrots in the trees......

Lezama Park is a beautiful public park in the San Telmo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, surrounded by old residential area of middle class people. It is one of the most important historical parks close to the central city. The land on which Park is situated belonged to Jose Gregorio Lezama, after passing through many colonial and local hands. Lezama developed the land into a beautiful green space adjoining to his residential palace. He died in 1894. His widow sold 20 acre land from her estate to the City Council for a nominal price on the condition that the land would be developed into a Park bearing her husband’s name. Their residence was converted into National Historical Museum in 1897. Subsequently Municipal Parks Director, Carlos Thays remodeled the garden into a beautiful Park with facilities for children and local community such as Sunday Enjoyment Corner, Recreation and Amusement Stadium, Fun Fair Market, etc. It is a peaceful place for enjoying natural atmosphere.
