About
Fundación Proa is a contemporary art center known for its groundbreaking exhibits from world-famous vanguard artists such as Duchamp, Giacometti, Malevich or Ai WeiWei, to name a few. Proa is located in an Italian house from the 19th century, entirely refurbished including a modern glass façade, and just a few steps from Caminito, the city’s most famous street in the historic neighborhood of La Boca, home of tango and Boca Juniors football team. If you plan to visit us, make sure to check out Proa21, our brand new place dedicated to contemporary artistic experimentation and investigation, just one block away from the main building. CAFE PROA - THE BEST VIEW! You can also have something to eat and drink a glass of wine in our Café while you enjoy a panoramic view over the Riachuelo and the landmark Transbordador bridge. LIBRARY & SHOP Visit our shop and bookstore with a unique selection of objects from local designers, art publications and books from independent publishers.

The area

Neighbourhood: La Boca
A neighbourhood defined by its immigrant roots, La Boca still maintains this past alive in its streets today. Due to its proximity to the river, the neighbourhood became the preferred settling area for immigrants of a wide variety of origins, who ended up living together in the conventillos. Thus, these houses became a melting pot of different cultures and traditions that birthed creations like tango and lunfardo. Nowadays, this legacy can be seen and felt on Caminito Street, which welcomes visitors with colourful facades, cobblestones, and street artists showcasing their skills. Just like its neighbor San Telmo, La Boca is one of the prime destinations to experience the traditions and customs that originated from the city’s immigrant past and which have shaped its distinct identity.

A nicely arranged exhibition but a little hard to know the flow of movement. Nice installations with Spanish descriptions. The flow between spaces was hard to follow as the route between one room to the next was not clear. The art was interesting and some replicated that we saw at MALBA.

For visiting this Zone of Buenos Aires it is convenient to take a Tour because you may be assaulted by malvivientes. The Museum has an interesting collection of Argentine Art.

Beautiful facade. We paid nominal $3 for only four rooms of which two sculptires reminded me of the Chicago Bean. Looking forward to lunch and they were out of our destination meal choices including a hamburger in the land of carne. Great views from the restaurant terrace of La Boca area and the water. Strange. Skip it!

I was in this Museum during the Anish Kapoor exebition in december 2019. Also the depandace one block away is very good and worth to go. The view from the second floor is really nice, too.

we arrived there today, went to the door, went in, told no exhibition, no smile, no hello, nada, we went and that folks is it. I don't mind there being no exhibition, I should have checked on line but I do mind rudeness.

Great space, and well used for the current exhibition of minimalism, post-minimalism and conceptual art. Usual big US names. I can imagine that other modern work would find a good temporary home here. Nice bookshop and library.

The bulding and the location is awful and dangerous. There are some collections along the year very interesting and mainly modern art. The coffe shop and resto poor quality and so expensive.

Hello Gustavo, La Boca is one of the most photographed spots in the world because of it beauty and history and Fundación Proa works hard to show Contemporary art for the local visitors. Thank you for your review and opinions. Have a nice weekend!

Nice building and that’s it. We saw a nice modern exhibition but that’s just 20 minutes or so. Besides, the style is very different to the neighborhood where it is located. It seems to be disconnected with the area.

Only two poor exhibits in this space - some art student clothes and some sort of display around recycling and damage to the environment. Everything in Spanish. Cafe food not great either. Seemed popular with local school children. Much better places to visit in BA.
